I'm just a guy who takes road trips and loves photography. I am a native San Diegan, and I'm usually traveling on Route 66 and visiting charming small towns. What's important is the call to adventure and the people you meet along the way. No DM.

The road curves toward something new.
Stone and sky remember where we’ve been.
We travel with hope, not hurry.
Each bend invites a story.
Memory begins again, just ahead.

Chaco Culture National Historical Park - New Mexico

Walking through stone, we enter memory.
The walls speak in shadow and light.
We walk through stories shaped in silence.
The land listens still.
Each step honors those who came before.

Even in stillness, the clouds carry song.
Even worn, the form holds memory.
The wind whispers the names of ancestors.
Where walls fall, the spirit dances in light.
The sky listens, and memory moves through it.

The soul hums in canyon light.
The shape listens like desert stone.
The wind speaks the names of those who dreamed.
Where walls fall, the spirit takes flight.
History walks beside the sun.

After the picture description, l have a creepy tale.

The photograph shows a dense forest bathed entirely in crimson red light. Tall trees with smooth trunks stand closely together, their branches twisting and overlapping high above.

The ground is covered in a carpet of red leaves, and a narrow path winds into the distance, fading into a fiery glow. Our picture is finished with a thin white border frame.

Now our tale.

The Shapeshifter of the Crimson Wood

They called it the Crimson Wood because the sunlight never shone here like it did elsewhere, it bled.

Every dusk, the forest would blaze with impossible scarlet light, and anyone who lingered too long beneath its canopy would vanish.

Elara entered the forest at twilight, following the trail of her missing brother. The air was thick with whispers, the rustle of unseen things moving between the trees.

The ground felt warm, pulsing faintly, like the heartbeat of something vast beneath her feet.

She heard a sound, a voice that sounded almost like her brother calling her name.
“Elara”

The voice came from the shadows, from behind one of the thick trunks. She ran toward it, only to find him standing there,or something that looked like him. His eyes were too black, too still, his smile stretched too wide.

“You shouldn’t have come,” he said, though his mouth didn’t move. The words came from the forest itself, from the red leaves trembling above.

Elara stumbled back, and the figure’s shape began to shift, bones cracking, limbs elongating, skin turning to bark and shadow. The creature mimicked her brother’s form perfectly, then melted into the shape of a deer, a wolf, and finally, a tree among the others.

Now, when travelers pass through the Crimson Wood, they say the trees seem to lean closer, whispering in familiar voices. Some even swear one of the trunks looks human, its face caught forever in a silent scream.

For in the heart of the forest, the shapeshifter waits, wearing the faces of all who came before.

Serenity gathers where the water meets light.
Boats rest beneath a sky unfolding.
The harbor listens without sound.
Even the sunset moves gently.

They arrived like stories. Soft. Slow. Full of distance.
The motel didn’t blink.
The sign kept watch.
The sky opened.

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day
To the Aztec, whose temples touched the sun.
To the Lenape, whose spirit still walks Philly’s rivers.
To the dancers at Seeds Pow Wow, whose feet drum the earth awake.
Today we honor truth, survival, and joy.
The land remembers. The people rise.

The bay listens as the day exhales. Water gathers the last colors of light, cradling them in silence. Stillness lingers between sky and tide. Serenity arrives without needing to be named.
