The study for the Borealis looked at starting in St Cloud. I'd imagine that's what they'd do if they used Big Lake

Redeveloping the Midway station makes more sense IMO but costs money
trainsfan.bsky.social
BNSF requires it as part of service discontinuance
trainsfan.bsky.social
Yup, BNSF requires it as part of service discontinuance

Christ, just heard the number that Metro Transit's gonna have to pay to demolish the Northstar stations.

TWENTY
MILLION

and that DOESN'T include the money owed to the FTA. Fiscal responsibility my ass!

I remember at one point in highschool @wacker.bsky.social saying to me something along the lines of "What do you mean you hate Shakespeare? All his plays are full of dick jokes"

The main reason you should be skeptical of the mayors plans for Nicollett mall is because he can't even keep our current events going
trainsfan.bsky.social
One of the reasons I'm ranking Fateh first is because he is the only candidate who unconditionally supports better transit and biking
taylordahlin.com
this ad took longer for omar fateh and ilhan omar to film than they expected because they kept talking to people riding transit. i love it. half of what i wanted to see!!! bsky.app/profile/tayl...

need a minneapolis mayoral candidate to ride the slow nicollet mall buses and talk about how we can improve their speed in ways the city hasn't tried yet. need a minneapolis mayoral candidate to ride transit in general and talk to transit riders!

I hope @dewayneforminneapolis.com doesn't mind me retelling a story he told me when we first met last winter. I kept it to myself because he wasn’t telling it publicly but he mentioned it yesterday. It’s one of the things that’s leading me to rank him first. A hope-its-ok-and-I-get-right 🧵:

Yesterday, I hosted an incredible event, "Ward 8 for a New Mayor." We talked about why we need a new mayor and then @jazzformayor.bsky.social , @omarfatehmn.com , and @dewayneforminneapolis.com laid out why they should be our next mayor. I came away excited about all of them and will rank all three!

I though google was glitching when it showed the by-inning score and was missing a point, until I realized it only went back to the 6th

there hasn't been a run scored in SEVEN INNINGS

Still hoping for The Cube

We could fit a pretty large cube in the K-Mart site. It'd be the 5th tallest building in the metro (~600 ft) and certainly the largest by volume.

-Boosts tourism
-infinite possibilities
-good transit access (could run the 18 through like one of those monorails in Japan)
-all-in-one sports stadium?
Downtown St Paul looking west. The Cube is still there Looking southwest over downtown, The Cube is still obvious Looking down lake street from Bde Maka Ska. The Cube is clearly visible in the background close up of The Cube, looking NE

Another part of "eyes on the street" is getting light rail frequency back up. The gains in ridership ensure more (for lack of a better term) normal people are riding it, again reinforcing social norms

I open the page, I do the thing I'm there to do and I close it

Sometimes I'll have 20+ open for a research project but again, when I'm done I close them

I still think we should give the bus drivers garage clickers they can use to change the lights

I'm on the slowest bus line in the city with the slowest buses in the nation to talk to New Yorkers about what it would mean for their lives if we made them fast and free.

In the same way that every American government agency has cops budding off of it, so too do private companies and banks (and also sometimes cops)

Arg, that's Coffee creek, not arrow creek. I even got it right at the start!

My idea was to take one and put it on a slumbercoach so you get the big dome and the funny windows
Former NP Loch Ness, a 24-8 slumbercoach. Like 2/3 of the car has staggered windows that defy convention. They're too high

and don't come at me for copying the Wikipedia page I wrote most of it

So start pinching your pennies folks, when he passes you might just be able to own one of the most unique and striking railcars to grace the high iron.

the idea was to graft them onto some other junk passenger cars but trains are not like automobiles, the cheap ones are actually really expensive

actually wait...

Now, the owner of the EL&S has a large private collection and is known for hating railfans. There's a good chance this car still exists in some shape, but we won't really know until he finally passes. All we know is they probably aren't stored next to the sharks
trainsfan.bsky.social
Coon Rapids just kinda... disappeared. It also entered private ownership and was briefly used in excursion service on the EL&S. Supposedly it was seized by the owner due to money owed. It was last spotted around 1980.
Coon Rapids in 1979, looking run down. There's bright yellow text that says "@DO NOT COPY OR REPOST@ at the bottom Interior of Coon Rapids during an excursion in 1974
