It is indisputable that Brexit has been an economic disaster, and notable that none of its political architects have paid any price.
Brexit has caused almost twice as much damage to the UK economy than estimated by official forecasts, according to new paper from a group of experts including a senior Bank of England economist

So people put their trust in Johnson because he was funny and had charisma.

20,000 people aren’t laughing now though.

Prime Ministers need to be capable, diligent and intelligent.

Racism and charisma and stupid ideas like Brexit simply don’t cut it to make a PM.

Having Johnson & Cummings in Downing Street when Covid struck was, just like Brexit, an entirely avoidable disaster caused largely by utterly appalling journalism. And now exactly the same clowns, arses & bigots with bylines are rolling out the red carpet for Farage.

Important time. This was a few weeks after the Skripal attack when May called out Putin, and Johnson went scuttling off without his security detail to meet Putin confidante* Alexander Lebedev in Umbria and plotted with Temerko to topple May

* by then he was aiding Putin’s puppet regime in Crimea
Just as he was advising Epstein, Bannon was advising Johnson on how to topple May “Today we are going to see if Boris Johnson tries to overthrow the British government. He’s going to give a speech in the Commons.” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019...

I disagree here. I argued when Johnson was in power that we didn't have to respond to every fire being lit in Number 10, & we don't have to be blown around by every gust today. Indeed, the frenzy of briefing & whatsapp-journalism makes it more urgent to filter out the noise & do analysis more slowly

The issue is less the reporting than the volume of comment & analysis dedicated to every breath of speculation - esp. as we'll leap straight after the budget to "what does this mean for the polls/the next budget".It gets hard to differentiate what might happen from what did happen. That's a problem.

It’s one thing to argue about what the budget *should* do: that’s part of our role as democratic citizens.

But the constant “what does this mean for the government” analysis could probably wait until we know what they’ve actually chosen to do.
