A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

The Bronze Age ended not from conquest but from broken trust. Trade collapsed, cities shrank, and memory dimmed for centuries. Our global economy hums on the same interdependence. If cooperation fails again, the next dark age will be digital.
Why Wall Street's old 'wall of worry' and new 'debasement trade' are boosting gold, bitcoin in typically volatile October
Gold and bitcoin hit record highs as investors hedge against inflation, surging U.S. debt, and a weakening dollar in the new "debasement trade."

(Notably in England "Reform" - from the same family as Chega - won big in local elections. It's fair to say, in office they've failed miserably.)

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

No one fights just one fight.

Racism bleeds into classism, sexism fuels economic violence, and every injustice reinforces another.

Solidarity isn’t about agreeing on everything, it’s about knowing our struggles are bound together. 💜

On the left, black text reads, “There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.” — Audre Lorde. On the right, a photo of Lorde shows her in a patterned headwrap and light blouse, gazing forward with calm intensity.
