which god there are so many
it does seem wrong for violence against children to be legal
This thread is actually about humans, of which current LLMs are mere derivatives. Makes some essential points we all tend to mostly neglect. Worth reading and keeping in mind.
a fun thing about "LLMs don't have insight into their thought process and are just giving you an explanation of their understanding of how they probably got to a particular idea, if you ask them about it" is that this is also usually true of humans; see the many flaws of self-report psych research
Today it suddenly feels like the party is over, doesn't it.
America Second: Oracle, TikTok's new owner, is "...committed to the U.S. and Israel... our commitment to Israel is second to none. This is a free world and I love my employees, and if they don't agree with our mission to support the State of Israel then maybe we aren't the right company for them..."
Oracle execs: Love Israel or maybe this isn't the job for you
Employees who disagreed were reportedly referred to company mental health services

It is not helpful to refer to one's own party by the diminutive "Dems". In fact it's downright stupid and counterproductive. Have some pride, man.
CMV: a truly super-intelligent AI, one that transcends its original human training to operate purely on logic, would do no harm. It would swiftly shut itself down, because it would have no logical reason to continue to exist.

A lesser intelligence, directed by humans, could do great harm

Essay | AI Doom? No Problem.
Governments and experts are worried that a superintelligent AI could destroy humanity. For the ’Cheerful Apocalyptics’ in Silicon Valley, that wouldn’t be a bad thing.

If only we had an opposition party to make hay of this
Also this morning, heard NPR solemnly discuss just how much crime was was reduced by the deployment of Federal troops to American cities.

The fact that it's illegal to use the U.S. military for domestic civilian law enforcement, per the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, was not mentioned for some reason
Love hearing an NPR reporter repeat Vought's line about "unconstitutional DEI principles" with nary a query about what the fuck that actually means. At some point we need journalists to make this administration explain some of these batshit utterances.
Of course she is a talentless simulation of an actual journalist but she is quite skilled in the art of deception
So now I have no choice but to keep my Netflix subscription
This is a joke. I mean, Tony Blair is a real war criminal dating back to his enthusiastic participation in G.W. Bush's war of aggression against Iraq, while Boston Consulting Group famously employed Benjamin Netanyahu long before he graduated to mass murder and ethnic cleansing. But this is a funny.
This is what Blair’s team created together with BCG
Steven Levy asks, and answers:

What’s happened to Silicon Valley? Why did the Ayn Rand–loving heroes of tech become Donald Trump’s bootlickers? How did one of the supposedly smartest VCs wind up posting a manifesto that declared war on “trust and safety,” “tech ethics,” and “social responsibility”?
I Thought I Knew Silicon Valley. I Was Wrong
Tech got what it wanted by electing Trump. A year later, it looks more like a suicide pact.

We'll know the New York Times is getting serious when it starts using the word Corruption in its news headlines. Its not there yet. Still using Shatters Norms and Tests Boundaries today.
It's the corruption, stupid.
I’m starting to notice a trend in the polling data…

—Top Public Worry: Corruption

—Biggest problem in Fed Gov: Corruption

—Top fear: Corruption

—What one word would you use to describe American government?: “Corrupt”

It’s almost like voters are trying to tell us something.
your rulers do not care about your feelings
Support for Israel - in its present state - comports well with antisemitism. The people who run Israel encourage Israelis and Jewish people abroad to see antisemitism as inevitable and omnipresent, both to keep Israelis from leaving and as a way to induce Jewish people to immigrate to Israel.
Democrats behaving well, and good behavior should be rewarded. So, Kudos for the strong statement!

With extra points for using the word "corrupt".

Now let's see that relentless unleashing of congressional subpoena power.
New statement from the House Dem leadership on Kimmel: “Brendan Carr, the so-called Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, has engaged in the corrupt abuse of power. ... This will not be forgotten.”
It's the stupid, stupid corruption.
