@ghostalservice.bsky.social has been mentioned so often but I also have to shout out that drive to turn poison into positivity
@veeagainsttheday.bsky.social offered to beta for me without any idea of whether I can string two sentences together (I have yet to finish a story but Someday)
Because we need a little positivity: who are the people in OFMD fandom who you most look up to and want to send a little love?
This is lovely. It takes courage to face what hasn't been working and make changes, no matter how small.

The people who have let this show awaken something in them and made huge changes to live an authentic life.
The ones who can't make the big life changes, but now know themselves better.
Those who give back and help the fandom community however they can.
The creative geniuses.
My beautiful friends.

Lots of other people have already said it (and I love that), but shouting out everyone who feels a little invisible when these posts go around, whether you're a lurker or a cheerleader or because life has been lifeing and you've found yourself out of sight and out of mind ❀️

Oh yes - this is the best Stede-reassuring-Ed song in my book. I'm so glad it hit!
AWAWAWGHH this is so sweet! What was it! I love throwing songs at people like smokebombs and running away
tl;dr life is really complex; we have to make hard decisions with hard feelings; wouldn't it be better if we did that together and just talked it through as a crew
Also, fox makes some really great points about the complicated emotions that come up around stuff like this and how that affects our decisions. It's a ramification of the capitalist hellscape we're in. Which is why it's better to talk about it openly and ask questions, instead of assuming motives.
And she has the knowledge and skills to organize these, and the ethical commitment to make sure that everyone involved gets treated with respect and compensated fairly. (Over and above herself.) She's a treasure, and if she's not doing stuff like this, it's not going to happen.
And when I saw how she actually operated - and the agony she puts herself through making sure that these events are as accessible cost-wise as humanly possible - I was sold. She's up there with the most generous people in the fandom. She's not making money on these - she just wants them to happen.
To clarify where I'm coming from: I was initially very skeptical, having come from the awful RoP convention. But when I expressed an interest in coming to TNUC but balked at the cost, Amy - who I did not know at all - offered to put me on staff and comp everything if I could get the plane ticket.
There really is a lot of that and it's ugly to see. The sad thing is, if people just asked, they would be surprised about how readily they would be invited in.
There are plenty of ways to be involved in these conversation if you just reach out and ask, "hey, how does this work and what are my options?" Because I know (and have seen) how Amy will make it feasible for you (generic you).
*As long as you give her the benefit of the doubt.*
Sure, we all have bad days when we assume the worst. But the responsible thing to do is to take a step back and check those assumptions, before acting.

I've seen a lot of people having a hard time and stressing themselves out more over this because they've plain interpreted it wrong. (Not you!)
I will say that one thing that this has reiterated is that there are people in this fandom who assume bad faith by default, and choose to share that interpretation without actually checking what's true.

That's poison to any group, full stop.
There's a larger problem though, which is: if there is confusion about any of this, why not just reach out and ask for clarification? Why has everyone jumped to the worst, most restrictive interpretation of the new rules? What is with the bad faith?

People should just *ask*.
(I'll also point out that Amy did not name or censure the people who did that in any way. She just make a new rule to indicate that it not happen again.)
Conversation hasn't been the issue, though! The problem (which was pretty clearly articulated) is taking and reposting the *whole thing* in the form of complete transcripts. Without asking first whether something like that would be forthcoming.
Bing bing bing.

And while it would be nice to make these things freely available after the fact, there are a lot of reasons why that's just not feasible. That sucks! It really does!

And the person arranging this knows that, which is why for all of these there have been *copious* discounts.
the options are not "christine wada's panel costs money" or "christine wada's panel is freely available to everybody," they're "christine wada's panel costs money" or "there is no christine wada panel at all." if she wanted to do a free one she'd have already done it, nobody in fandom can stop her

YES. I lived in Thailand until 2024 and only got to go to a couple of events because of privilege..

Those who don't make art or fic or edits, who are just here to enjoy and comment and share the stuff. I've said it before, but they're the heart of fandom, and this ship would be a ghost ship without them.

A few!

@ghostalservice.bsky.social and @ferventemily.bsky.social and every other fandom organizer that does the (often *eye-wateringly* thankless) work to keep our community fed and thriving

(tbc in comments as I have scattered time, bc this is sth I can YAP about)

WE SHOULD DO IT

(but after Wee Con, I'm eyebrows deep in spreadsheets)
Gussets are incredible! I've made several of those shirts (including muppet sized) and it always explodes my brain how they come together!
