My book, IT ALL FELT IMPOSSIBLE, in which I wrote a short essay for each year of my life, is officially out today (paperback & ebook). I think it's the best writing I've ever done, the most I've ever sounded like myself on the page.

I refuse to accept that people are debating marginal shit about "abuse" of disability accommodations at colleges when the actual president is randomly picking and choosing colleges to destroy based on whether they have paid him a big enough bribe

one time I turned in a paper so half-assed the teacher emailed that night to say, "I am not going to read this. You have until tomorrow to turn in something better." Thinking about the email still fills me with shame. Anyway, I realize now I should have emailed the governor to let him know I suck

Have to admit I never noticed this before but it's true
just finished reading a christmas carol by charles dickens. pretty good, and a quick, breezy read. but damned if he didn't rip off basically the whole story from the muppets.

Posts like this reliably do big numbers but I have to say it certainly doesn't reflect my experience at a state school with lots of underprepared and first generation students. Most of them are doing about the same quality and effort they've been doing since I started teaching
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Northwestern was the only college that rejected me and now I can comfort myself in the knowledge that they are led by cowardly buffoons who have no idea what world they're living in (I assumed this anyway, good to have proof)
