I don't think this is "the most solid indicator." We can do better than studies with 16 participants who were directly told the study was about AI speedup

I wrote about this study & why I don't think it's particularly strong evidence for this effect:

Would be a good time to shut down Dreamforce. If I have friends who are still speaking there, this is a good reason to cancel.

Qualcomm is acquiring Arduino, and they're launching a new SBC (Uno Q) combining a Dragonwing SoC with an Arduino microcontroller in the Uno form factor. What implications does this have for makers and education? Quick video covering the news: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfKX...

That funny/sad reality is that it was the challenges of managing all the planning docs I was putting together that sent me down last nights yak-shaving adventure. :lolsob:

I'm more and more convinced that LLM coding assistants are the ultimate yak shaving enabler. I can't even remember the task I originally started out thinking I'd work on tonight, but at least I made some progress on a completely unrelated task that seemed important at the time.

Health insurance costs are about to rise by a record amount.

This is happening after the seven largest publicly traded health insurance companies reported a combined $71 BILLION in profits in 2024.

Instead of addressing this, Trump is spreading misinformation about Tylenol.

Are you an experienced software buyer? I could use your help.

I'm working on the second edition of "Observability Engineering", and hoping to include the kind of advice an experienced principal engineer might give a staff engineer buying for the first time.

If it seems like I’ve been relatively quiet lately on social media and my blog, that’s because I have. Liz, Austin, George and I have been busy toiling away on the second edition of “Observability …

I use AWS a ton but Lambda still astounds me. Throw some code in a function, send 1m requests as fast as you can.

It ate up all available file descriptors on my little t3 box and still ran 18k RPS with a p99 of 0.3479s. Not many services can go from 0 to 18k RPS instantaneously with this p99.

Yeah, I had used it for a while before trying Ghostty, but hadn't really gotten deep into customizing the config before now.

But this is the thing that made me kick Ghostty to the curb for good. Not being able to automate launching of terminal sessions with a specific command is just ridiculous.
Screenshot of a terminal session with the output from a command describing a limitation with Ghostty. It's not possible to launch Ghostty on MacOS from the CLI while passing in a command to be run in the new terminal session.

To those for whom this means anything (both of you): I finally switched back to WezTerm after giving Ghostty a few months trial run. Spent more time getting my settings dialed in and it just feels so much more ergonomic. Found some useful ideas from this post: alexplescan.com/posts/2024/0...
Okay, I really like WezTerm
A guide to configuring WezTerm using its Lua API. Focuses on appearance, keybindings, multiplexing, workspace navigation, and status bar (powerline) setup.

That disorienting feeling you get after laying down for a quick 20-30 minute nap and then waking up almost two hours later. Especially when it's late enough in the day that the light outside changes significantly.

Dammit, RIP Graham Greene. Even movies/shows I didn't love were always better for your presence. Your role as Leonard on Northern Exposure (which I DID love) will always stand out for me. And I was thrilled when you showed up in Reservation Dogs. You will be missed.

At least I don't have to worry (yet) about Claude's morale issues when I yell at it because the CI checks are STILL failing.
