learned recently that the guy who wrote "The Night Before Christmas," clement clarke moore, also wrote a takedown of thomas jefferson's proto-scientific racism in "Notes on the State of Virginia," basically accusing him and others of making it up to justify slavery. which, that's right.

Still appalled at how paltry and terrible the NYT coverage of the protests were and how nobody there feels any responsibility to address the criticism. This was not something that caught them off guard. This was many levels of decisions.

There's also a severe selection on the dependent variable problem with these comparisons. The Times has looked at all the moderates who won elections, but doesn't include the ones who underperformed and lost. This exaggerates the effect size by roughly 2x. No one is saying you can't be angry. Anger is a powerful, valid emotion. It's normal to be afraid, too. The reason we de-escalate ourselves is so we don't give into the panic the regime wants to incite. We engage our rational brains to strategize how we advance our cause in response to them.

I guess I would ask what panicking does for us in this moment? And how maintaining our calm helps us strategize and deprive the regime of creating panic.

Also remember: DC and LA have been thru this and we can look to them for support and solidarity and strategy.
