I play some non-DnD TTRPGs and in those community spaces there’s always this kind of push to point out How System Does Thing Better Than DnD which I find eternally exhausting even when true

So I’m familiar with the criticism

So this hostility is coming from people who think that DnD hasn’t “earned” its place to advertise itself as a partial fantasy life simulator because the bulk of what DnD actually has rules and systems for is combat oriented

A lot of people are just eternally salty that DnD is, despite everything WOTC and Hasbro have done to it, still the “main” TTRPG out there. There are systems with “better” social and community roleplay, there are systems with better combat mechanics and ideas etc etc etc
