Is it still the case that there aren't any dedicated mobile apps for #pixelfed that support multiple logins? It seems that's still the case other than general purpose apps that support pixelfed (like Tusky). I finally deleted ig from my phone and lack of support for multiple logins is the main […]

"It's hard here not to recall Ursula Le Guin's famous short story 'The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas', about the imaginary city of Omelas, a city which also made do without kings, wars, slaves or secret police. We have a tendency, Le Guin notes, to write off such a community as 'simple', but in […]

I hope you're enjoying Jane's mom's homemade '70s advent calendar as much as I am! I'm relieved to say that I heard from Jane (who's been offline), and she says that it's cheered her up to see everyone's new replies to her original posts, so keep 'em coming, and I'll keep reposting.

I think one of the bigger unexplored angles of attack in @rechelon 's book is that, at higher levels of abstraction, lossy statistical models are necessary, but such models are very sensitive to overfitting (which corresponds to the "reality is patchy" anti-realism) and the opposite, bias (which […]

The NYT has an article out about how we should basically have a progressive version of Trump. Centrists/liberals proving yet again that they're essentially the same thing as tankies, yet they love to convince themselves that everyone to their own left is that.

Every once in a while, my brain decides to sucker punch me with secondhand embarrassment by reminding me that the line "from the hoods of Japan, Harajuku girls" really did appear in a song that actually got played on the radio.

I love how the internet has collectively decided to posthumously bully Ea-Nasir. It sends the right kind of message to people trying to sell shoddy product!

I'm not sure if she's doing it this year, but I always look forward to @janenx01.bsky.social resharing the advent calendar her mom made in the '70s!
Every year I look forward to sharing my Advent Calendar online. My mother made this by hand in 1976 or 1977. There no Velcro or glue - everything is sewn onto the panels in her tiny little stitches. Day One is a very content looking felt cow with a tiny French knot for her eye. #AdventCalendar

Gallego sounding like a bog standard misogynist is the most unsurprising thing about them. Again, things often are exactly what they look like. When a prominent person shows a bit of bigotry, it's very often the tip of the iceberg.

This is even an example of "men publicly treat trans women the […]

Little did I know when handing my 2DS with the Hatsune Miku rhythm game on it to my 4 year old kid that she would still be periodically playing that game 9 years later and using it to save her song ideas. Well-designed games surely are a treasure. The Switch version is apparently not as fun.

If anyone is homeless or in prison, you do not have a "strong floor," period. If you support the state violently preventing rich people's second homes from being squatted, your agenda is not that of abundance but of squandering stolen land with urban sprawl.

I never paid attention to the commentary about Midsommar but me and my wife watched it last night and... white supremacism being a death cult is laid on pretty thick yet the wikipedia article mentions this in only one sentence.
