Thinking today about how my grandparents used to get so many Christmas cards in the mail and they would tape them all around their sitting room entryway.

I received only two cards this year and taped them in my kitchen entryway like they did.

All I want for Christmas is for the phones to stop fucking ringing at work

My "health journey" hot take is that meal prepping is not for everyone. Having to interrupt my evenings to prep or having to cook even more than I already am is awful.

My breakfast this morning was yogurt mixed in oats I cooked for a minute in the microwave. You dont have to prep overnight oats.

Human beings have enough brain power to do these things on their own accord. Using our own brains doesn't come with the caveat of ethical/environmental disasters.

If you think budgeting/scheduling is too hard to do without an AI bot, you should probably simply just not be handling them.
As the backlash to generative AI in video games continues to pick up steam heading into 2026, it'll be fascinating to see what is considered "made with generative AI." Can a dev team say they're not using AI if they're writing design docs with Copilot or using chatGPT to make schedules and budgets?

My husband thought throwing the blanket over the clean laundry while we wait for the rest to finish in the dryer would save it.

Neither of our cats are burrow cats. But the allure must have simply been too much 😂😂

I know a lot of people are going to have opinions on this because Clair Obscur was the golden child of games this year.

But i say, fucking bravo. I'm tired of the defeatist talk I've been seeing, and it's little pushbacks like this that will save us from gen AI taking over.
The IGAs Nomination Committee is officially retracting Debut Game and Game of the Year, awarding both categories to new recipients. Additionally, we are retracting one of the Indie Vanguard recipients.

"Oh my godddd okay so you don't like genAI because it steals from artists, makes processes slower, creates more work for underpaid employees, is supported by data centers that are poisoning Black communities, doesn't even look good, and no one asked for it, but do you have to be so MEAN about it"

I'm sure it was planned way in advance but it's a bit poetic to have big studios claiming they can't do any sort of conceptualizing/planning without using gen AI and this Blizz artist drew up 2 possible sprays in an hour and a half stream via community polling.
First Look at Upcoming Spray in #Overwatch2 🎨

After Twitch Chat decided on a Ramattra spray, eyyyden drafted two initial concepts. The design with Ramattra holding a sprig of mistletoe won!

It's set to be added in 2026 🗓️

Our upcoming game The Hearth and Harbour is fully 2D, but with some neat tricks we’ve made it look 3D. Ethan, our environment artist, did this with a special type of texture called a Normal Map. (Thread! 1/7)

I picked up Disco Elysium finally from the winter sale. Might grab The Seance of Blake Manor yet as well.

...alas, Rimworld has its dirty claws in me again and I've been running the most successful colony I've ever had, so any games I do play will have to wait till the obsession passes again xD

NEW: For the last seven weeks, Naughty Dog has enacted mandatory overtime for staff to finish an internal demo of their next game, Intergalactic. The game won't be out until 2027, leaving some staff wondering: If they're crunching now, what will next year be like? www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Last week I had to deal with my supervisor very excitedly showing me the AI songs she generated to broadcast from my job's float in the town's Christmas parade 🥲
everyone i know online: "AI is worse than satan. please stop"

every person i've talked to IRL "i use AI for everything! You shpuld try using it for your technical work too!"

every company: "we are putting AI in everything now."

what a strange world.

I appreciate when there's an audience backlash to this because what's happening from a dev perspective is that its gradually being normalized across many studios, through similar thinking and top-down culture-setting as revealed by these interviews.
this is a good battle to pick. the CEO mentioned using "AI" and got so much shit for it immediately that he's rattled and backpedaling. easy win there
this shit, despite its faults, is not going anywhere and people are going to have to pick their battles

I finished reading Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab last night and I was super disappointed in the ending. I think I still give the entire thing a solid 3/5 because I was enjoying the story up until the last few chapters. Could still be worth checking out depending on your tastes.

I did that thing again where I haven't played Honkai Star Rail in months but I had a bunch of pulls saved up so I opened it long enough to pull the new pretty succubus and then immediately closed the game again lmao

Like man, my career only exists in the way that it does now because a production designer was googling "realistic pokemon" and found me. If he could have just had a machine spit that out, I never would have gotten a job. This is a major issue hitting artist discoverability.

I find so many artists I've never seen before when researching ref on every single painting I make. This is the way we make connections. Using genAI to make reference is creating unseen missed opportunities at unprecedented speed and removing one more human element of art making.

Similar to how voice AI use has been suggested; for 'scratch'
or reference.

I know many actors, myself among them, who got jobs from the scratch work.

Every example of AI being used I've seen is cutting away a job that someone coming up would take or get on their journey.

Maybe that's the point.
The thing thats so insidious about using AI this way is that one of the main ways artists get hired are studios looking for art references and they find us and reach out.

This is removing a major avenue to get work if they can just generate nameless derivations of our ideas.
