I wonder if there are a few disciplines or cross disciplines that help this.
And this 2021 article from Axios pretty much exemplified the practicality issue via Ubisoft. I can’t think of a better reason to standardize to UE when you’re having fairly talent retention and acquisition issues.

That I dunno either. I just know there’s a practicality argument for standardization across the engine and for whatever reason, UE is the one that the industry is hopping on to the most.
Delusion. We bit the bullet and still got behind Clinton and Biden with barely anything in return.
Thank you to @brianfleming.bsky.social and the crew at @suckerpunchprod.bsky.social for crafting such an emotionally profound and beautiful experience!
And that’s a wrap on Ghost of Yotei.

Really liking how even the end credits for this game are cinematic
And that’s pretty important given that the dev workforce has shrunk quite a bit (to date 30% have been let go in the last 2-3 yrs) and the dev job market has probably become a lot more competitive because of it. Especially if we’re looking at just the AAA space.
I dunno if it’s publisher pressure but I can definitely see logic in how some devs might be trying to push it too. It’s easier to get moving on a project if you don’t have to stop to train up people on some in-house engine (Frostbite, Snowdrop, etc) because they’ll work on UE no matter where they go
The mission where you go train Kiku with Jubei and Oyuki is probably my favorite in Ghost of Yotei. It’s wholesome and beautiful to see a family borne out of tragedy

The dude who singlehandedly controls the government is demanding it pay him a quarter of a billion dollars of our tax money as restitution for having been caught committing crimes.
President Trump is demanding that the Justice Department pay him about $230 million in compensation for the federal investigations into him.

Whether he gets paid will ultimately be up to DOJ's second-in-command, who was recently his personal lawyer.

Been watching The Purge TV show and it’s not too bad for what it is even there’s a lot of predictability

The more serious point is that this entire generation of games was debilitated by an anomalous, hopefully-once-in-a-lifetime event, and that we might see shorter development times once we're past the blast zone (at least until Unreal 6 gets announced...)

Food for thought... There's a lot of talk about speeding up game development, given how many recent games took 5-7 years to make. But many of those were hampered by the switch from Unreal 4 to 5. And ALL of them lost months to covid. Perhaps one way to make games faster is to not have a pandemic
Again, a great reminder to follow @matpiscatella.bsky.social for some really solid and predictive analysis of the industry. He’s got it right that the future of Xbox is likely skewing to a small but still affluent minority of the population.
So very niche, expensive and limited?
The next Xbox will be high-end and curated, teases Xbox president Sarah Bond:

"The next-gen console will be a very premium and high-end curated experience. You're starting to see some of the thinking we have in this handheld, but I don't want to give it all away"

Oh this definitely came from the top and Xbox is executing it. It’s a reminder that back to back purchases of Zenimax and Activision are more trouble than worth because all this is being done to try and recoup what totals out to be in that $100bn total range
Ofc they’re canning sociology. Conservatives in particular hate that discipline
Microsoft: “Let’s make it harder for developers to make games AND make these games inaccessible to consumers with exorbitant price hikes.”

Jfc.
Even Xbox developer kits are getting a big price hike
The Trump tariffs hit Xbox again

"yeah, dude. I was a fucking idiot and I've learned a lot since then" is worth way more than any bs excuses or coverups people try and throw around.
Reminder that Violent J of Insane Clown Posse has the correct response to a lot of the shitty things he said in the early days.

Happy 48th Birthday to Sam Witwer 🎂
This would have actually been pretty good so ofc Disney killed it
Adam Driver says he was developing a new Star Wars movie ‘The Hunt for Ben Solo’ with Steven Soderbergh

• Set after ‘The Rise of Skywalker’

• Lucasfilm loved it, but Disney said no — “They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive”

"It was one of the coolest fucking scripts I've ever been a part of'
It got adapted into a comic which got a sequel. Not that bad fwiw.
