They don’t call it Old Blighty for no reason!
I’m going to have to question your assertion of “no redeeming qualities”. The simple act of reflection on sobriety is pretty redeemable!
Love yourself because you want a better life and you’re doing something about it!
Secular 11th Step?
You don’t need to believe God is listening. The 11th step asks you to develop the habit of questioning your own certainty before acting on it.
Call it prayer, reflection, or stepping back from your immediate reactions. The label matters less than the practice.

That’s got to be the MOST Canadian celebration ever!
…landscapes in Norway.
Again, not to take away from the American ones, they’re amazing in their own right, but Norway has natural beauty on a level like no place else on earth.
…but you can fit the whole of Yosemite in a random fjord and no one would notice - because there are literally THOUSANDS of fjords.
Arches? In another fjord. All the beautiful state parks in America? A few other fjords… there’s literally nothing in America that matches the scale of stunning…
It’s a van parked in a “gravel parking lot” on a point in the middle of a Norwegian fjord.
As an American who has visited almost every of our national parks, I’ll say with confidence Norway makes them all pale in comparison.
That’s not to say the USNPs are not beautiful, they are…
Today we’re headed towards the Swedish border and headed south. Norway just never disappoints.
It is literally the most beautiful country on earth - and I’ve seen a LOT of countries!
It’s like you took Yosemite, added an ocean and stretched it for 1500 miles!

…a good group of secular recovery people who were more than happy to forgo the religious platitudes and approach sobriety from a more humanist perspective.
They’re there (in every meeting) if you look.
Yep. In my community, at the age I got sober, there were few other viable options. I had to get comfortable or find alternative options. I did a bit of both.. I did a coffee shop culture cure… and never went to a bar alone. The two worked for me… YMMV.
Also, as an agnostic in AA, I found…
In early #sobriety I was surrounded by ppl who seemed to have their shit together. I wondered if I was doing it “right”.
Turns out, everyone’s path is different.
Which doesn’t matter as long as we get to the same point in the end!

Leaving #Norway today. It’s a bittersweet feeling because this place is just magical!
We’ll be back in the spring!
Now, off to Germany and schnitzel… and wurst…. and… and…
Gluttony is not a character defect I want to work on yet!

It’s all good!

Keep going!
Gettin high on democracy!
It’s a sweet buzz!
That’s one to be proud of… my last drink 31+ years ago was a flat Natty Light on tap at a “down market” bar. These days, it wouldn’t even rate a “dive bar”!
Congrats on your sobriety! It’s such a better way of living!
That’s real recovery… a nice, pleasant life.

Congratulations… on life!
It's a rainy, cold day here in Norway... and I am getting ready for another #sober #Christmas season... Ho Ho Ho!
That means I am getting all the #sobriety gifts ready to go!
My first bsky holiday season!
Bear with me... please don't bare with me! (that is how I remember which one to use!)
We gave up so much trust in our drinking and using. It can be rebuilt, but it takes time. No one owes you anything because you got #sober - you have to work daily to regain the trust you once had from those you love.

Trust in Early Sobriety: Rebuilding Hope
Rebuilding trust in early recovery takes time and consistency. One mother's honest account of earning back her daughters' belief in her word.

What kind of support do you have in your sobriety? Especially in times like this.. it helps to have someone in your corner, wanting you to succeed!
What's on your mind that is making you feel like this?
If you've avoided AA because of the spiritual language, consider this: You're not the first person to struggle with the vocabulary. Thousands figured it out before you. The rooms are full of people who don't believe in God—people who built meaningful #sobriety anyway.

Interesting corollary: I used to write EXTREMELY technical SOP guides for “certain” military hardware.
One “senior leader” loved snap inspections of field ops, asking for specific config information.
I told each group of soldiers, the correct answer is ALWAYS “let’s check the SOP!” Can’t go wrong!
I wrote the first chapter and it’s feeling good… so we’ll see!
