Really pleased to have received the physical copy of There Will Be Poems! It's lovely and I'm proud to have been a part of it. Thank you to @therewillbepoems.bsky.social for all your work on this. I'm looking forward to enjoying everyone's contributions again in print. :)

When cosmic spark began the world, with countless wonders to perceive,
The sacred task of Man was set to study kingdoms old and new.
The spirals of the smallest shell are mirrored in the glittering sky–
People there are good, I said,
And in my heart I felt it true.

When paths are fraught with struggle, on our principles we must rely.
Both faith and reason teach us thus– I pray you think me not naive!
All human hearts beat brief and bright, so who would not feel as I do?
People there are good, I said,
Or so I wanted to believe.

When tests are failed, cruel exultations shatter all I thought I knew.
Though wounded I can yet see clear– my eyes forbid me to deny
This clarion reality, and for the soul of Man I grieve.

more than a little late, but here is my contribution to the @therewillbepoems.bsky.social Terror poetry zine. excited to be able to share this with y'all, and hoping to put out little blog post soon w/details on the (very real) science I learned abt while writing this!

Title: Ice Sheet Fingerprints

Text:
We cannot always tell bad luck from good,
as many parables say. A broken leg could mean a war avoided,
a double yolk might be just a curious egg.
We know when ice melts waters rise:
a burial at sea three hundred years too late.
Your brother always was afraid of drowning.
Yet once the ice is gone—
no more mountains, no more valleys—
that fantastic pull of glacial gravity
gives way, so the sea recedes from shore,
the water held there but by desire
that only planets know.
So go tell those boys on Beechey Island
as the ice thaws and the grave-mud sucks
that even death can be good luck.
