Americans ARE protesting. A LOT. There have been massive protests every day this week in multiple major cities - for Palestine, for trans rights, for immigrants and against ICE, against Musk.

The reason why is exposure. It's pretty hard to hate a certain demographic when they are your friends and neighbours. When you see them as people in your community. Bigger cities are typically blue for this reason.
