This is very sad to me. "Young people are reading less for pleasure, too. In 2020, only 17 percent of 13-year-olds surveyed said they read for fun almost every day. That figure was 27 percent in 2012 and 35 percent when data collection began in 1984,..."

Also, part of attending conference is about just making connections w/other librarians in general which takes targeted effort. I always have a few "go to" conversation starters in my back pocket for when I'm standing in line beside someone or sitting beside someone waiting for a session to start.

As a former school librarian, I really enjoyed this episode. Definitely a recommended listen for school librarians because it's VERY affirming. All librarians should consider sharing through their social media channels so people can start to understand what it means to be a school librarian. 📚
