This evening’s reminder that you can be a part of a movement of people rising up and caring for each other.

It doesn’t take any particular skill or bravery and nobody will ask you where you were yesterday, they’ll just press work into your hands that badly needs doing.

This is what I've had the privilege to watch happening in Chicago:

A genuine social moment, so new and spontaneous (though not without antecedents and seedbeds) it doesn't even yet have a theory or "ideology." Just: people doing....

marie antoinette of course famously said, "let those transsexuals have pussies" while letting the poor suffer

Semicolon use or its absence correlates with the author's attitude towards trans women

I honestly think if you are a well off trans person you either recognize that your circumstances are mostly by chance and that the system is keeping your siblings oppressed or you become entirely insufferable.

I genuinely think Ari Drennen does not think of trans people who exist below a certain tax bracket, yet insists on generalizing her incredibly narrow and limited worldview to the experiences of a population pushed out of the formal economy worldwide.

I fear we're quickly approaching an environment where *any* attempt at online organizing will be policed by capital or criminalized by the state.

Statement from AG Pam Bondi:
Statement from AG Pam Bondi:

“Today following outreach from the DOJ, Facebook removed a large group page that was being used to dox and target ICE agents in Chicago.

The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing their jobs. The Department of Justice will continue engaging tech companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent violence against federal law enforcement.”

Using trans assimilation into the American political paradigm (i.e., fascism masquerading as liberalism) just to be anti-communist in the year 2025 is, frankly, wild. All our asses would've been Lavender Scared out of jobs even like 30 years ago because we'd be assumed to be pinko commies.

Just to be clear, the American conception of transsexualism as bourgeois is a phenomenon of maybe the last 15 years. Concurrent to that and predating it by probable millennia is the global conception of transsexualism as a class beneath working class, relegated to criminalized labor like sex work.

YES YOU DO

also by the time you get back— refreshed and ready for the struggle— someone else will need to tag out for a minute to catch their breath. you’ll be welcome relief. many hands = light work

When a trans woman dies of natural causes, at an age greater than 75, having lived more than half her life as herself, that is cause for celebration, not mourning.

Thank you, Miss Major.

*whispers* we still have guys in the midwest

An integral part of the social fabric was understanding what “guy” a man was. Were you a guy with a truck? A guy who put stuff in the truck? A guy who could fix a toilet?

my father-in-law is a “I know a guy” Guy. sadly all the old Guys are aging out of the Guy Economy. Guys are fundamentally incompatible with Hustle Culture because it’s not about “winning” a deal, it’s about collecting favors and goodwill in a mutually-beneficial cycle. protect your local Guy Economy

which is to say you can craft poems, and many do, and they can be rather good, but there is a something else that appears when a poet is attuned to a communal state of listening that can be described as magic and no amount of art can get you there

the best poetry is as much magic as art, or, how john wieners said it, "poets are under magical orders"

We honor the legacy of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a fierce protector of our collective freedom. Our hearts are with her loved ones and all who carry her vision forward.

"We will honor Miss Major forever." - @imarajones.bsky.social
An illustration of Miss Major surrounded by candles with blue background and a famous quote of hers written in gold. The quote reads“I don’t need their permission to exist; I exist in spite of them. I want you to train and teach and love on and create families within my community and gender non-conforming people, so that we can understand that we have a culture, we have a history, we have a reason to be here. We have a purpose. We’re entitled to be loved, and seek happiness, and share that with the people that we care about.” -Miss Major Griffin-Gracy

I don’t really have any literary opinions (hinged or otherwise) but I do wish it wasn’t such an uphill climb to get published if you don’t have an MFA

Chicago Over Everything

A few messages seen today in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood
A poster on a pole next to a street says:
“ICE YOU ARE NOT INVISIBLE
!RECORD!
!RECORD!
!RECORD!
NAZI RATS LEAVE OUR CITY”
A stack of posters featuring a hammer-wielding figure with the stars of the Chicago wrapped around his torso. It says:
“I PREFER MY ICE CRUSHED. END IMMIGRATION ARRESTS, DEFEND OUR SANCTUARY” A sign in a store window says: “WE DON’T [SERVE is crossed out] FEED ICE OR PIGS! even if you steal this sign” The words “ICE OUT” are written in chalk on a sidewalk.
