Journalists and editors love alliteration. While "can of corn" sounds dull when imagined, it catches the eyes -- which is why editors use the literary device.
It not only creates a rhythm in the language but it's also catchy and as @manwithpez.bsky.social noted, you'll read it over and over.

I just tossed out "box of cereal" as an example of something that's in another aisle from the canned corn, but I do see your point there too. That one would be less about the language itself, and more about painting a mental picture.

Unfortunately, voters haven't been allowed much reprieve in 2025. It's been hard. So, my advice is use the holidays to give yourself an actual break.

I don’t think I have ever been to Miami International Airport before this week, but I have to say — it may be among my least favorite airports.

There's Something in the Barn is based on stories of the Tomte, which are traditionally of Swedish lore (the film is set in Norway). The Tomte are gnomes that take care of a person's barn, including animals. However, disrespect them at your own peril. Offer them porridge. #FrightClub
