When we talk about the elite disconnect, it’s this kinda thing. I gotta think the majority of people out there just want to live they own lives, and care mostly about what they deal with directly day-to-day. Livin from gut reactions because just gettin by takes all the head space.

Because we’re a longshot aways yet from “wholeheartedly”. Hell, there’s more’n 30 states with a smaller total population than showed up for No Kings. Part of why the right is pushin so hard so fast is that they KNOW they outnumbered.

Good point, and you got to draw that line for your own self. Myself I’m new to the site and the protestin in general, though I been voting blue every single election in dogged determination even as the state swung right. Find myself vacillating wildly between hope & despair. No Kings gives me hope.

And just for the record, the 8 million protesters at No Kings is four times bigger than the two million soldiers and reservists in the entire United States military. That's how big it was nationwide.

The timing is terrible. Asking for a 20% hike right after AISD announced the plan to close neighborhood schools leaves them lookin greedy and incompetent. Austin gets screwed comin & goin, with the Lege bleedin em dry & kickin em as a thank-you. Voters wanna fight back & just got a big fat target.

OK, I’ve finished marking up the per curiam opinion, and this is one of the worst opinions I’ve read this year.

It gets some things just flat out wrong, it works overtime to only provide Trump-friendly facts, and it stretches Newsom (the CA NG 9th Cir opinion) to the breaking point.

PER CURIAM:
Defendants-Appellants, President Donald J. Trump, Secretary of Defense
Peter Hegseth, and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, in their official
capacities, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) (collectively, Defendants), seek an emergency stay of the district
court’s October 4, 2025 temporary restraining order (TRO) enjoining the President’s
Case: 25-6268, 10/20/2025, DktEntry: 61.1, Page 2 of 93
order to federalize 200 members of the Oregon National Guard for 60 days to protect
federal personnel and property at the Lindquist Building, an Immigration and
Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland, Oregon. After considering the
record at this preliminary stage, we conclude that it is likely that the President
lawfully exercised his statutory authority under 10 U.S.C. § 12406(3), which
authorizes the federalization of the National Guard when “the President is unable
with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States.” The evidence the
President relied on reflects a “colorable assessment of the facts and law within a
‘range of honest judgment.’” Newsom v. Trump, 141 F.4th 1032, 1051 (9th Cir.
2025) (per curiam) (quoting Sterling v. Constantin, 287 U.S. 378, 399 (1932)). We
thus conclude that Defendants are likely to succeed on the merits of their appeal, and
that the other stay factors weigh in their favor. We grant Defendants’ motion for a
stay pending appeal.
