I suppose I'd best get on and fill this in. Psychologist, Prof, writer, former head of department and university research integrity advisor. Research and consultancy: smell/taste; food; horror; comedy; the brain. Email: [email protected]
Pinned
And so, it begins! (again). NEWS. The 8th edition of Psychology will be out in 2026! This means, I think, that I should start writing it.

Today I published a replication outlining concerns with "Instrumentally Inclusive" by Turnbull-Dugarte and López Ortega (2024, APSR).

I document seemingly idiosyncratic and ad hoc choices made by the authors that create a pattern of statistically significant results consistent with their theory.

Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

An horrendous journey because of a signal points muck up at Archway which meant the Northern Line was suspended and we all had to swamp the buses. Having a case and standing, I spent a good two minutes staring at a bus stop sign outside honking on about unwanted touching on public transport.

You can buy a church AND a vestry in Ammanford for under £60k
If you own a £2m house in London, you could buy a house as good or better anywhere else for far less, and you would have a ton of spare cash, so stop whining.

The scandal of medical research still failing to adopt the Registered Report format for trial publications.

Great example of failure to weed out Questionable Research Practices by clinical trial register (preregistration)+ journal review + multiple systematic reviews + guideline development process
The stuff you find when you actually read the RCTs in a systematic review...

On a train, and my public service announcement of the day is that some conversations on a phone really, really don’t need to be had and that new smartphones with highly sensitive AI built in should self destruct when they detect bibble in a moving environment.

I think it tells you a lot, not that you needed telling a lot, about #newsnight that it labelled Gillian Tett as "Columnist, Financial Times" rather than "PROVOST, KING'S COLLEGE CAMBRIDGE". A kilner jar of naff media Herberts talking to themselves.
