#petHealth Had a scare earlier when Rass started limping. Almost 100% certain it's not serious at this point, but he seemed in pain earlier, so I called the emergency vet. Her thoughts went to thrombosis (v serious). A call to a 2nd vet alleviated that concern, and Rass' limp seems better now: >

Thinking abt how I've seen lots abt unethical use of source material by LLMs in regards to artists & authors, but little (none) in regards to open source code.

Not entirely the same, tho personally I'm not sure I feel differently abt having my fic scraped off AO3 vs. my code off Github.

Went to the half-yearly folksy-artsy market today and bought a proper big clothes brush from the stand I bought a tiny clothes brush from in the summer, bc the brush has been magic for removing Rass' fur from clothes.

The lady who runs that shop is the most video game character of all time. She >

In further good news, the coffee advent calendar I bought myself in a spontaneous "I deserve a treat 🥺" mood volunteered very nice coffee today. Maybe in the year of our Lord almost-2026 I'll get into the thing of drinking coffee for taste rather than caffeine 😂 ☕

Second interview achieved! 🎉
I have a job interview on Dec 2 with an IT company that was founded in 1924 which I guess makes it the antithesis of a startup 😂

It's virtual, but if they invite me for a second, in person one, I'll have to come up with an office wear outfit 😭😭😭

"So you do, like, web design?"

No. No I don't. Other people do & I have great respect for them bc my design skills are very modest. What I do is one of the 700 things you have to do to websites *other than* design them.

Tho honestly at this point it might be "lol who even uses websites anymore" 😐
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Bought this ages ago, finally managed to frame it. It's from a 1957 edition of The Motion Picture Herald. They just don't make movie ads like they used to 🥺

Every year, we try to make it to the open air old-timey mountain village museum that puts on a Christmas Market on first advent. So that's what we did today! It was very picturesque, with just enough snow on the ground to cover the grass, and local artists selling their stuff. Also alphorns!

Went to see Wake Up Dead Man!

Quite enjoyable; very promising dynamic between Blanc & suspect that there will hopefully be fic for 🥺

Had a convo today in which I said "we're gonna have to do the tedious annoying thing" and they said "that's outside our scope/responsibility, here's what we should do instead" and then proceeded to describe the tedious thing but with a "??? profit?" step attached. Felt like being in a Dali painting.

So turns out that one (1) bag of ginger tea left in a 1 liter thermos all day makes for a liter of holy-shit-that's-strong ginger tea 😂😂😂

I've got two!

My team at my previous employer, a group of awkward ND backend dev individuals who usually avoided talking, made me a really cute thanks-for-being-nice-to-us PDF goodbye card 🥺

&

I got a comment on a Thick of It fic from a Scottish person expressing surprise that I wasn't Scottish 🤓
What is the best compliment you ever received? Putting aside whether or not you believed it.

Following up on this, dressing up heavy black cargo trousers with a button-down shirt counts as "you tried", at least, right? Asking for me, who has to be on site at the customer's tomorrow 😭
Ngl the having to think about outfits part of being nb is my least favorite. If I could feel comfortable (and at this point not look kind of silly) in a pencil skirt and blazer, this would be so much easier. Being my authentic self in office wear is hard bc my authentic self detests office wear 😭

It's become official policy on my city's public transport that you're not allowed to play music out loud on your devices. This means that finally, my city's legendarily unfriendly bus drivers can use their grump and access to an amplified intercom for good!

Got fed up with the film & media industry, quit my job, spent a glorious six months unemployed and writing my best fic by far, and then started to work as a person who builds websites bc I had been doing that anyway for years and you can't be gloriously unemployed forever (unfortunately)
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

Experiments in writing validators to try and keep a vid database clean show that standard Python fuzzy string matching does not recognize simplified and traditional characters as the same character 😔

I mean, that's not unexpected. Still, a missed chance to impress me, Python!

Remember this? Embarrassed to admit that it took me until today to realise that this concept doesn't have one homepage, but two.

Two.

Because... that's how domains work, right? 😭
The digital industry trend to assume that knowing how the internet works is optional for working on web UX is so distressing. Imagine a concept for a car that suggests square wheels would better meet the needs of the target audience. That's the kind of concept I'm currently being asked to validate 😭

#uspol You should be proud. This is what people in my country didn't do, even though they knew, even though they didn't agree with what was happening. Some did and they were martyred, but what's better than being few and martyred is being many and win. Thank you for being one of the many.
Well, I'm very proud to say I chased ICE for four blocks, and got hit by a car! ( Nudged, nudged by a car. I am perfectly fine.) My throat hurts from screaming GET THE FUCK OUT OF OUR TOWN!

There was mob here in St. Paul of 100 people screaming at them, filming them, and chasing them down.

I know it's a lot of effort to adjust notification behaviour to my individual state of having seen them but I don't care. I'm letting you sell my data, what I want in return are notifications that know when they need to be resent and when they need to stop bothering me with at least 95% accuracy

TIL that the TPFDL, one of the Pentagon's most crucial and sophisticated war planning documents, is commonly referred to as the "tip-fiddle" 🤔

"Yes, sir, one tip-fiddle, coming right up!" 🫡

PSA for anyone who needs to hear it: decline politely when doctors ask whether they can use AI to summarise their convo with you. Not (necessarily) bc your doctor is selling your data, but bc 9 times out of 10, they are sending it to a 3rd party provider for processing. Thats how the tech works >
