I am going to start brewing kombucha again, and – in a full circle moment – the scoby is a actually descendent of mine from years ago. The cafe I used to make it at have continued to brew it since I left, and they gave me a new starter culture.

Hooray! We are past 50% in our campaign. Thank you, everyone!

Today Cheryl is off to Aberystwyth for the October Queer Lit Quarterly meeting. In honour of that, today's update tells the very queer story of our cover. (Content warning for sexual assault.)

The cover of They Are Still Here (Mae Nhw Yma O Hyd).

The image is of the sorceror, Gwydion, surrounded by wild animals (wolf, boar, deer) in a Celtic knotwork frame. Gwydion's hat is crowned with antlers. He carries an axe in his right hand and an oak twig in his left.

Ha. Yeah when I was looking at getting there purely by coach it was way too long but this combo of coach and then train was a good combo in terms of price/efficiency.
tejturner.com
This was the best combo in terms of cost and efficiency for coming from Wales and it might work for people from other areas.

National Express to Gatwick (lots of cities have these and they are usually direct and reasonable) and from there, there are regular trains to Brighton which only cost £11 each way.

I have figured out a hack to getting to Brighton which might be useful for others going to WorldFantasyCon (as I found that the trains were expensive and had a lot of changes).

If it ends up finding a publisher one day; those of you who enjoyed my first two novels (The Janus Cycle and Dinnusos Rises) should be pleased as it is a return to my earlier writing, both stylistically and in its themes, but I think it is also an evolution with added polish and maturity.

Instead, they think I need to add more sci-fi (which was a secondary concern of mine and one much easier to fix). So I am very relieved, and I will do some tweaks sometime in the near future, once I have received feedback from a few other people.

I heard back from one of my beta readers last night and not only did they reassure me that the cathartic novella I penned recently is *not* overly self-indulgent (as was my worry) but they even said that its personal elements are its biggest strength. 🥳

It was always a friend-of-a-friend (not someone that anyone knew directly) and it would be told as if it were a great life lesson as to why nobody should be vegetarian ever.

Do people still tell that story? I just realised I haven’t heard it for a while.

Does anyone remember that urban legend people used to tell where a pregnant woman who was vegetarian and basically dying of anaemia (or something) had her doctor tell to eat a steak, and it cured her forever.

Look. I now have a whole board full of ideas. This is progress, right? Maybe I can start this novel soon… 🤔 ✍️

I have written a series of short travelogues about atmospheric and historic places to visit in Wales to help with a fundraiser for this forthcoming anthology for @wtpress.bsky.social

This first one is about Ty Canol Woods in Pembrokeshire 🙂

Today's update on our Kickstarter campaign is from Tej Turner, who introduces us to the unearthly beauty of Tŷ Canol Wood: www.kickstarter.com/...

Just drank coffee for the first time in eight years and…. Wow. Now I remember why I don’t drink coffee 🤯🫨😳

WHERE AM I????

This is great. So wonderful to see it all go at once. In one great chunk. None of this gradual nonsense to ease myself in to the realities of being a homeowner.

Great idea, Tej 🤪

That way, immediately after I have just been paid, I will get to open up my banking app in the morning and see ALL the money leave at once. Mortgage, electric, council tax, house insurance, water, everything. All in one go.

I know what will be a good idea, I thought.

How about I set it up so that all of my bills come out on the same day of the month. That will be good for budgeting. Let’s make it the first day.

Starting to plan the first segment of this book now. Let’s see how long it takes to fill this board… 🤔 #amwriting
