I watched Hamnet today and am going to watch Frankenstein tomorrow. Don't think I've heard as many people cry in a film as I did when watching Hamnet. Of the films I've seen at the festival so far It Was Just An Accident was my favourite, with Hamnet a close second

Sat down for my next London Film Festival showing and it's one of the big films at the festival, and one at the Royal Festival Hall, Hamnet. I haven't read the book but heard great things about it. #lff2025 #londonfilmfestival #lff

Starting my week of films for this year's London Film Festival (albeit in Bristol today) with It Was Just an Accident. I've been a fan of Jafar Panahi's work for a while and it's great that he's getting so much attention now. #lff #lff2025 #londonfilmfestival @wshed.bsky.social

Jenny Nicholson tweet continues to not miss
@JennyENicholson

How come major film studios keep being like Jared Leto may have allegations, but at least he looks weird, stars in box office bombs, and is not a good actor

Finished reading Watership Down a few days ago. For as good as the film is there's a richness and folklore in the book that makes it a more rewarding experience to read

The only film I can think of like that is the film about Paul Potts, the first winner of Britain's Got Talent, with James Corden, which is not something I think anyone wants to repeat

There's no footage publicly available but I saw some at a talk Sylvester McCoy did at the Slapstick festival in Bristol last year and, from what was shown, it just shows why Hoskins worked so well as Eddie Valiant and there really wasn't anyone else who had the exact skills to do it so convincingly

Listening to the talk about Bob Hoskins reminds me of another reason he was perfectly cast. He started his career doing physical comedy in the Ken Campbell Roadshow alongside Sylvester McCoy. He performed some slapstick comedy in pubs and clubs and you can see that experience come through

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.

I remember watching the short at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival (seeing this post unlocked some memories, hadn't thought about that short in years) and that felt pretty grim for the sake of being grim. Sounds like the feature is on the same lines

I was listening to an old Casey Kasem American Top 40 (I find this soothing these days) from 1985 where he told the story of Wendy Carlos, who scored The Shining and Tron, and her journey to becoming trans. Casey got all the pronouns right and it was presented as a slice of life, feel good story

Cool tip: it actually takes MORE effort to deliberately misgender someone AND it marks you as a total asshole! Pretty cool!

To my fellow cishet dudes: when we are quiet about supporting the trans community, the only voices anyone hears are the Charlie Kirks of the world. Don't let accusations of being "performative" or "virtue signaling" shut you up - that's their whole point. Our voices are needed now more than ever.
