My colleague and I wrote a piece about the urgent need for Europe to partner with Canada in building a digitally sovereign ecosystem—one that can withstand the threats posed by US tech authoritarianism:
"An independent, democratic digital ecosystem [will] safeguard privacy, protect freedom of expression, and ensure that technology is developed to benefit the many, [not] a handful of people in Washington and Silicon Valley."

Europe and Canada can only protect their digital ecosystems against US interference if they start investing in tech sovereignty now.

Imagine having your final appointment/interview to receive a Green Card or U.S. citizenship and then realizing that because of the National Guard shooting you will be denied that for the foreseeable future. The future of countless people/families jeopardized through a rash decision.
NEW: The official USCIS guidance on this pause is out. Until further notice from the USCIS Director, all immigration benefits (including citizenship) are indefinitely suspended for nationals of 19 countries, as are all affirmative asylum applications from nationals of any country.

Good piece by @polphilpod.bsky.social at @theunpopulist.net. I think there is something to be said for distinguishing fascism proper from merely illiberal right-populism. And there's no plausible narrow and precise definition of "fascist" that Musk doesn't very obviously meet.
Even by a Strict Definition, Elon Musk Is a Fascist

And this, my friends, is the reason why I only buy new clothes whenever I am in Europe. It is impossible to find anything in the US that is better than fast fashion and still affordable. NYT writers clearly out of touch with the rest of society. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Lol, Zillow tried to rate the climate risks facing individual properties. The real estate industry *hated* it, precisely because it worked -- it made selling risky properties more difficult. So they rebelled & Zillow caved.

And I swear, once again, this is not dunking on kids. We are seeing this at all levels--even grad students. AI + social media has had a profound impact on how we think and process our world, and we can't stop to reflect on it, because billionaires keep hurling addictive tech at us.
