I still lean into online spaces. Discord and Instagram, mainly.
Online friendships are real friendships.
Never underestimate the importance of connection, especially for isolated or disabled people.

I found connections online in the late 00s and early 2010s. Usually art sites or places like tumblr.
It was the first time that I found people like me.
That is, queer, neurodivergent (undiagnosed at the time), and quirky.
Sure, there were some bad outliers, but i now consider them lessons.

I grew up, and still am, pretty rural. Being artsy and not at all into sports, I was too far away from events I could have made friends at.
It was lonely.
It was... isolating.

Just in time for San Marcos Zine Fest this weekend, here's my newest zine: New Faith!

1/2 🧵

Text: When I was younger, I was so confused because my feelings made no sense to me

I had no words to describe wanting to be a woman that didn’t clash with what I knew

Being transsexual meant something very specific,
and I’d been told by society
that I didn’t qualify

So when I began to fully understand that I was trans, I felt like I was too late

I was afraid HRT would
turn me into something
hideous and unlovable

Something not quite a woman, but no longer a man

And that scared me

Text: I didn’t have trans friends
my own age to talk to, they
were all younger or had started their transitions in their teens

I had no frame of reference
for what to expect, and I
was too scared to look it up

But I did it anyway

I took the plunge

I made a choice that felt like walking a tightrope through the midnight fog

I had lived my life too afraid to even get a tattoo

Because changing my body permanently was too scary

Yet still I took the pill

I plunge the needle into my thigh

Feel the estrogen course through me

Warming me

Making me more whole

Text: Some say you can’t be born transgender

As if it is a sickness contracted by the weak willed

But it is transformation,

metamorphosis

And isn’t metamorphosis
itself a form of birth?

Of course you can’t
be born reborn

It’s a journey

Aren’t Christians
all about rebirth?

So wouldn't transition be an innately divine path?
