To start with, it might help if you weren't using a term that suggests stand-alone stories (which is what you're really talking about) have inherently less worth/meaning than the episodes that forever impact the lore of the shows you like.

For as much as I'm loving Gina Yashere's absolute, Year Head presence and energy, Holly Hunter has really surprised me in #StarfleetAcademy so far. The trailers did not capture her composite vibe of Pelia, Action Dax, and SNW-brand Pike she'd bring.

It's weird how we've now got both a series set at Starfleet Academy, and a movie showing how Kirk and Spock first met (and didn't get along), both of which are ideas that have been gestating since the 1990s.
It's not too late for Takei to get his Sulu show, is what I'm taking from this.

I've got a mini Christmas Pudding in my fridge from December, and I keep being too full to eat it, but this is getting ridiculous now.

I don't know where the ad-funded tiers of services like Netflix place their commercials, but I have to assume they don't ever bother to align with the act breaks -- they'll just cut mid-sentence to something twice as loud, but also not long enough for you to go get a drink or do anything useful.

They've been available for many years now and I still refuse to use the "Skip Intro" button on streaming services.
It's going to become a lost art, factoring the pauses for commercial breaks and title sequences into the flow of a programme (or respecting that there wouldn't be one) but it WAS craft
