NEW BLOG BANDWAGON
During this interregnum between High Halloween and Mighty Christmas, a call goes forth to all the world that bloggers shall band together to collectively create a hexcrawl across the blogosphere, themed around those hokey claymation Christmas specials of yore!

📰 NEW MINDSTORM POST! 📰 I've thought a lot about what makes good worldbuilding, and the most consistent throughline seems to come down to one thing: being an absolute sicko about it. Here's a post about it, including some interviews from other designers.

As a part of my ongoing series "I Am A Hopeless Fantasy Maps Dork", I did a vid on what a GM is going to be able to get out of the Dolmenwood maps book. I own a whole bunch of fantasy atlases, and I have never seen one quite like this. (I know that's the monster book, it was the better thumbnail!)

Boris Artzybasheff, a Ukrainian illustrator who immigrated to the US in 1919, was known for florid, grotesque explorations of surrealistic anthropomorphism, combining human and machine into fearsome, laboring hulks of metal & flesh.

These illustrations are from “Machinalia.”

🎉 The Explorateur's Anniversary 🎉

My little community side project's still chugging along, and I'm happy to say, this month's issue's one of my favorites. Lots of great links, a new look, updated categories, and stats from last year's performance.

Everything good about this place feels like dandelions growing up through the cracks in the pavement, that they're desperately trying to spray with roundup.

My community is a weed, to them. Something unruly, refusing to behave, not knowing its place.
I‘ve hoarded a large number of maps myself and they’re fine as works of art themselves, but ended up using almost /none/ of them, simply because I’d have to design my encounter around the map, rather than finding a map that supports my needs. Also the amount of time spend browsing them was tedious.
This one is right up there with the battle map ‚industry‘. 🌚
Dice consumerism is something I really hate about this hobby.
A good little read about what’s problematic about all these cozy slop games nowadays. 👀
