I guess it's time for reintroduction with all the new followers.
Hi, I'm a paleoartist who also occasionally dabbles in general creature #art, mostly focused on synapsids of all sorts (mammals and our evolutionary line).
I mostly do #3d and #digitalart.
Digital illustration of the extinct south American marsupial relative thylacosmilus atrox. Only the head and neck are shown. It's in profile view, facing left, with the head angled up, and jaws wide open, showing off its sabre-like teeth, superficially resembling those of the sabre toothed cats. The lower jaw has a flange extending from the chin, matching the sabers in length. The roots of the canines extend deep into the skull, above and beyond the orbits, creating a visible elongated bump on the skull, and giving it a somewhat domed appearance. The top of the head is covered by thick, keratinized skin. There's an upsidedown crescent moon behind the animal, the background is dark navy blue, and there are five four pointed stars scattered randomly throughout it. 3d render of a dragon, shown mostly from the side, facing right. Only the head and neck are shown, and it's looking down at something out of the frame. It's a mammalian looking dragon, covered with pangolin-like scutes, with short off-white fur on the underside of the neck and lower jaw. It has long pointed ears, and antlers resembling those of the extinct Pleistocene giant deer megaloceros giganteus (somewhat moose-like). It also had saberteeth and porcupine like quills on its cheeks and around the eyes. There's a puff of smoke coming out of its nostrils. The scene is dark, and lit up by an orange glow ( like from a torch or a campfire) coming from the direction the dragon is looking towards. Digital portrait of the late Permian gorgonopsid inostrancevia alexandri, shown from the side, facing left, and looking up. There are out of focus branches behind the animal and a tiny insect perched on top of it's snout. The head is long, about twice as long as it's deep. The lower jaw scoops down at the front, to accommodate long sabre-like canines ( they're not visible, as the animal has its mouth closed). This produces a profile of the mandible where it's deepest in front, shallowest in the middle, and deepens again at the back, thanks to jaw muscles.. the neck is muscular. The animal doesn't have any fur nor scales, but the skin on top of the head, cheeks and the top of the neck is thicker, and bumpy. 3d render of the Jurassic synapsid Castorocauda lutrasimilis swimming with a fish in its mouth. It's shown mostly from the side facing left, and angled down diagonally with the tip of the tail much higher than the head. It looks like a long snouted otter with a beaver tail. Its feet are webbed. It's covered with fur, apart from the tail, but has no visible ears. There are some bubbles above and rising alongside the animal. The background is covered by water plants, with some algae covered rocks and logs on the bottom of the lake/river it's the animal is swimming in. The water is a bit murky and very green.

What I'm saying is I won't get anything productive done in the foreseeable future, and that's without even taking the Witcher into account.

Unfortunately, I decided that, since I had my birthday earlier this month, I should get myself a present. Unfortunately gog had a game I poured inhuman amounts of time into as a teen dirt cheap on sale. Unfortunately, I got the new account discount and also got Witcher 3 for equally dirt cheap.

They're so squishy, they're just perfectly suited for maximum joy delivery, aren't they?

The world sucks, so here's a colour study of an elusive water potato I did on Monday, for your viewing pleasure
Proportions are a bit wonky, but it's been a long while since I was grinning this much while painting something

Digital painting of a baby pygmy hippo standing in a pool I water with an out of focus rock face in the background. The hippo is facing the viewer.
It is Very squishy looking, because it's a baby pygmy hippo and they're squishy, wet potatoes with legs.

Though I just remembered that there are some "ice age never happened" people out in the wild, so could also be an offshoot of that. Or any other nonsense, the amount of people who give into conspiratorial thinking is really scary lately.
synapsidgirl.bsky.social
I wonder if they're also the "dinosaurs aren't real" people or if a new conspiracy theory just dropped

LOL, not far off, as long as it's a really good, high-end laptop. Maybe a gaming pc, depending on a gurdy.
Sadly, I'm yet to meet a gurdy peddling wizard :(

Also, why are hurdy-gurdies so horrifically expensive? I mean, I know why, but still. Why.

My window prisms throwing little rainbows at some prehistoric beasts on the drying shelf 💕
A herd of assorted dry but unfired clay animals (horses, aurochs) on a shelf. Some window prisms are throwing subtle rainbows on them.

In today's episode of misheard lyrics, I refuse to believe that this song does not, in fact, go:
"Magick is a laughing fool, a dance into the dark
A glimpse of hope within a circle... Le chonk"
Who am I to tell musicians they can't sing about les chonks, after all.

"For centuries, scientists and sailors have know that sperm whales hunted the 'giant squid', Architeuthis dux. Whale bodies are scarred with huge sucked marks and gashes from Archituthus. But the battles take place in deep water, far beyond where humans can easily travel…"

- Awesome stuff.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

Thank you so much Totemic_tattoo (on IG) for making time for us to give me my very first tattoo. He was so knowledgable and kind, giving the best experience I could have hoped for! Both my partner and I are absolutely thrilled 🖤🥹

It's such a good bust, I loved seeing the step by step. Great job!

Luna lately when I take her for a walk(unless she gets taken to the beach or a forest, that is): " no thank you, I'd rather go home and nap"
Luna the moment we get back:
" I have ball. Please throw ball, don't touch ball, the ball, throw it, throw the ball"
Make up your mind, you furry menace.

And also, even if it wasn't, why exactly should I be comforted by the idea that the increasingly racist, xenophobic, bigoted society gleefully embracing fascism isn't currently targeting me? I have the ability to care about people other than me, you know.

Yeah, I can't wait to hear the good old "but it's not about immigrants like you" once again.
Yes it is, it's about all of us.

Farage has been targeting my immigration group since the early 2010s. I'm confident, that, just like during the run up to the Brexit vote, my English colleagues will completely downplay my stress and fear, xenophobic threats made at my family, proceed to ghost me and provide no help and support.

Reform are now coming after people with permanent residency. It'll be citizens next. No one is safe from authoritarian governments.

Research team Naiomi & Arjan approved coloration direction & gave some suggestions as I refined the paint job. Last steps after this: to add protowhiskers and some fuzz, next!
