2 birds, a mother in back and her duckling in front. They are resting on pebbles with bits of green foliage surrounding them. The mother fishing duck has a rusty brown head & crest with a long deep red bill that has a hook on the end. Her body is a light grey. The duckling has a rusty brown back & top of the head. The chin & breast feathers are white. It has a stripe underneath it's eye, running from the base of the bill to the rust brown.

#Birds #BarnSwallow #Fledgling For today's alternate BTOD #LookinUp A fledgling Barn Swallow who was perched on a branch below me at river's edge. It was patiently waiting for a parent to come by with food. Too young to know any better, it watched me for a bit before turning it's back on me.
A young bird with it's head turned to look over it's shoulder. Head feathers are black, the ones on it's back are just starting to show an iridescent blue. Below the beak is a mall patch of rust colour. The beak has the telltale yellow at the corners that juveniles have.

Catnapping. In a neighbour's driveway on cool but sunny fall day. The cat was sleeping on the asphalt warmed by the sun.
A fluffy, tiger striped cat with a reddish pink nose, white whiskers, light tan markings around closed eyes and a bit of white on it's muzzle & chin; sleeps soundly on asphalt.

It was bath time for this Canada Goose in the shallows of the North Nechako River.

#Birds #RedWingedBlackbird #BirdOfTheDay Rob's alternate BOTD is Blackbird. This is a male Red Winged Blackbird from earlier this year....when it was warmer and viewfinders & glasses didn't fog up in the field.

A very handsome male Purple Finch; a somewhat elusive songbird in my area.

#Birds #SolitarySandpiper #WaderWednesday These elegant little birds hang out at the muddy end of the pond. They probe the mud for dinner. Occasionally I see them fish out a leech.
