In my local town, the old buildings that get a tax break cannot be modified and are governed by a historical commission. I’m appalled that Trump is ruining the White House itself without permission or oversight

After Roger Taney died in 1864, Congress considered a bill to spend $1,000 to add a marble bust of Taney to the busts of all the other former chief justices. One senator objected by arguing that he'd rather spend $2,000 to hang him in effigy; another just joked that Taney was burning in hell.
