Sometime around late September people began talking about it. It has only grown since then.

This month Blackout the System began to take hold.

A national call to boycott Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

If you can afford it, a *monetary* donation (it goes a lot farther!) to your local food bank would be a most excellent thing to do right now.
I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.

Ecuador Rejects Prosecution of Survivor of U.S. Strike on Vessel

The country has freed the man, one of two survivors of a U.S. military strike on a submersible vessel last week, defying President Trump’s claim that he would be held and prosecuted.

A chaotic scene briefly erupted in downtown Manhattan when ICE agents began arresting illegal street vendors, a law enforcement official told CNN. It was not immediately clear how many arrests were made.
Apart from the farmers' market, there are MANY restaurants, hotels, and bars here in the Downtown East / Mill District with Central and South American staff. But again, would ICE stage a raid in a nice, fun, wholesome, $$$ area, just for revenge on Minneapolis for being woke or whatever?
The market just moved indoors (inside a nearby museum's atrium) for the year, & this is in a $$$ / touristy downtown neighborhood. Seems a very unlikely target for a raid, but who even knows any more.
Some Guatemalans and Southeast Asians (Hmong? Vietnamese? I'm not sure) sell produce every Saturday at the Mill City farmers' market over here. Do we need to plan what to do if ICE shows up? #Minneapolis
I wish I knew who made it — it's not by me, and I don't remember where I found it. ...It's Moo Deng, the Thai pygmy hippo / internet sensation. I agree, it is very cute. :)

Your yearly reminder that "sugar maple tree" in the Dakota language is ćaŋ-ha’-saŋ or "chanhassen."
Still need to do this, or someone else could
Actually planning to buy a beaver costume and attend protests as the Prosecutor Beaver. "J'ACCUSE!!!"
Gratitude is hard for me to find at times but very rewarding when I remember to try to think that way

We just live in a john carpenter movie now.
Just don't use the word "menchies"
"it's weird saying that" is truly desperate
Good to know! ...I don't know anyone in Quito, though, whereas I do know an American who moved from Seattle to Costa Rica a few years ago and likes it there.
That's all very good, but I fear the "high 60s to low 70s" stage is over as of today. The "increasing cold and darkness" part is what bothers me. Early fall: classic. Late fall: dud.
I hear Costa Rica is a very nice place to live

Trump's meticulous construction of a secret police force in the traditional authoritarian model: hyper violent, targeting domestic political adversaries, unaccountable under law and to court. Pro Publica does a fine job here, with the sort of piece that NYT, WaPo and WSJ don't have the guts to run.

I shop there about 2x/week. This specific location has advantages for me: it's half a block away so I don't have to park at it; it's unusually spacious, hence fairly easy to navigate; and with my schedule I can go when it's less busy. But I hear you. (And I wish staff weren't so insistently chatty!)
