New intro post for pinning!

Entered the games industry in 2012 after graduating with my BS in CS. I’ve worked as QA, Production Engineer, and now Activity Designer/Feature Lead on D2 RAD team.

Largely (re)posting about games, horror, art (no AI), and politics (anti-fascist)

And of course Dog Tax

Just grabbed Ledgerbound to try out tonight; I was swayed by their videos on TikTok and it sounds like they have a fantastic voice cast.

The vibes look like they're going to be the right kind of ridiculous, so I'm looking forward to that :D

3) Deck of Haunts

This one I bought at the start of the month in a bundle, but this is such a solid twist on the deckbuilder mechanics. I really enjoyed finding interesting card combos alongside building out a sort of Tower Defense type of house building mechanic. Good spooky vibes!

2) Tavern Keeper

Really fun Tavern simulator with a really good sense of humor. Seems like it has some room for storytelling with memorable characters as well. Also has features for customizing and designing your tavern that I think a lot of people will really enjoy.

So far I've played some solid NextFest demos:

1) Train Reaction

Really enjoyable Zachtronic-like logic puzzle game where you automate trains. UI/UX takes a little getting used to but once you get used to it, the puzzles are fun to figure out an optimize.

WHEN THERE’S NO TREASURE BEHIND THE WATERFALL: Wow. Too stuck-up to put treasure there huh? Too much of a fucking ICONOCLAST for that? Piece of shit. FUCK you

When we write or draw porn or erotica, we get banned from having a bank account and our livelihoods get seized even if we give it away for free.

When billionaires steal what we've written or drawn to churn out a slop-approximate of porn, they're allowed to charge for it.
Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

I used to think people who bought squirrel resistant feeders were just kind of being assholes - like just let the squirrels eat I thought

But now I understand. I literally refilled this yesterday >.< they’re just tossing it on the ground!

Sadly, my contract with Blizzard ended in September. That means I'm looking for fulltime or contract work as a senior writer or narrative designer. If you need someone who can write sharp characters, poetic prose, and emotional stories, I'm available! www.hazelmonforton.com
It's #portfolioday! I'm presently a senior narrative designer at Blizzard, but before that I was at Bungie and Arkane. I wrote for the Writer's Guild award-nominated Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and a bunch of critically acclaimed seasons and expansions in Destiny 2.

a central principle—maybe THE central principle—in each of these is: sometimes you won't understand what the weird little guys do, and they'll do it for a machine-reason that you can only feel the edges of. but you will enjoy it when they do it

there are four key texts as far as i'm concerned and they are The Sims, Dwarf Fortress, Caves of Qud, and Crusader Kings 3. lots of other seminal games out there but you play those four and you've unlocked the magical door
caves of qud is probably the best game ever idk, it's just the best one

Six weeks prior to Halo: CE shipping, 16 player multiplayer over LAN was not functioning.

It took dedicated engineers and a lot of people in test undergoing intense crunch to save that feature.

The landscape of video games is owed in major part to test.
