Every time I hear how "unique" the PS3 architecture is as a way to praise it my first thought is "a square wheeled bicycle is also unique but all it accomplishes is making its main function more cumbersome"

When watching nostalgic reviews of older games it is hard not to feel people got too entranced by the marketing.

And I don't mean stuff like a MGS trailer that arguably has creative value on its own, stuff like "ur mum hates Dead Space 2!!!" or seeing the same looking white dude in every bus.

Rebecca was one of the founders of Interplay and programmed & designed for some of the most influential games of my youth, notably Bard's Tale I & III and Wasteland. She will be missed.

It's crazy that this talk of "middle ground" is about cutting corners and take people out of the creative process instead of how the use of ML could have enhanced the game.

which ARC has that middle ground in its ML trained procedural animation!!
"Surely there's a middle ground here?" The CEO of Helldivers 2 studio Arrowhead says people "jump to extreme takes" when debating generative AI, and that there needs to be more nuance in the discussion.

Consider that, whoever did this, is more passionate about this maligned game that died in a few weeks that you are for your favourite games that you played for years.

we wanted to make samus’s experience as a capable woman more realistic, so we gave her an annoying man who thinks that he’s funny and constantly telling her what to do

I do wonder why valve is trying to sell the steam machine as a 4k/60fps capable device, even with FSR doing some heavy lifting that feels like overselling considering the specs fluctuate between being better and worse than a PS5.

A lot of contemporary titles simply won't run like that.

The successor to GZDoom is out now, after GZDoom's lead developer decided to start 'vibe coding' with AI.

For those worried, this should perform EXACTLY the same as GZDoom. Probably better, and with improving compatibility as there's more people actively working on it and listening to the community
The pre-release for UZDoom's debut is here! If you'd like to help us test UZDoom in preparation for 4.14.3 grab the build here: github.com/UZDoom/UZDoo... (expand the Assets tab)

(Windows and Linux available; Mac coming later)

With remasters doing ugly smooth filtering where pixels become eldritch horrors I dunno why companies don't resort to spending some time doing an ok CRT filter instead

It doesn't need to go hard on trying to make an accurate CRT experience, even just a simple scanline filter can be transformative.

This animation stutter/skip that happens in map load triggers (?) in Soul Reaver remastered is driving me insane

I checked the PS1 version through duckstation to see if I was just misremembering but no, this doesn't seem to be OG behaviour.

Revisited American McGee's Alice this halloween and fell in love with its visual, audio & narrative again but also found new appreciation for how the team applied their 90s FPS lineage into an early attempt at a 3d action platformer despite the jank that came with it.
