My recommendation is to get "the tales of shikanoko" not self contained, its four relatively small books though. And each concludes fairly well even with the cliffhangers. You can get them for like $5 on thriftbooks

For this one I used high quality paper from "Hahnemühle", Indian ink, liquid watercolours, ink pen, alcohol based markers and white Posca pen.
