The Gruffalo said no Gruffalo should,
Take in a horse made of deep dark wood,
"Why not? Why not?"
Because if you do,
The big bad Greeks will be after you.

I think this might be the best drawing I've ever done of Jon's face.
Panel 5, zoomed in. The eyeballs are everywhere.

Idly wondering what a public health campaign on this would look like, and why stuff we tried for, eg, drink driving, isn't being used.

I bang on about this a lot: I think the combination of a global pandemic, underregulated internet/SM, collapse/corruption of trustworthy media, plus now unregulated genAI, is a wildly toxic environment for radicalisation & mental health. We see the results of that in our politics & lives every day

SomethingAwful tried to warn us. "The internet makes you stupid", right there on the front page.
stupidityvortex.bsky.social
That is a vivid and incredibly internet metaphor.

OK, so here's why this probably isn't "legal bullshit."* And also a quick reminder that not all law is American law, and the law where you live and do business matters.

*I'm not going to opine on whether GW *should* take action; this is about their legal claims.

So GW are pulling their legal bullshit with a creator on some immensely spurious grounds.

They are arguing that even not similar models are unfair competition because they're compatible with their games...

Ah! Ok, that makes a lot more sense. I barely understand UK copyright law, never mind other countries...
stupidityvortex.bsky.social
The "unfair completion" thing is *weird* though, right?

"You're selling models that are basically identical to ours" is one thing, "You're selling models that are clearly inspired by ours but are not something we've ever made" is another, but those are IP arguments, not competition, surely.

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.
