I recall a jic bail application I did as a solicitor some time in the last century. What makes it a fixture in my memory is that the judge was trying to change for open court, had got his bow tie into a devilish knot and asked me to undo it for him. My untying succeeded, but my application failed.
Wholly unsurprising that racists refuse to say that other racists are racists.
For “innumerate” read “disingenuous.”
What, if anything, has the tepid, timid Labour government had to say about this?
Then when they “apologise” for saying racist things they make out that what they said wasn’t racist in the first place and that it’s our fault for being stupid and misunderstanding them.

I spent yesterday with my 96yo father who lives in a care home not far from Katie Lam’s constituency. His carers are overwhelmingly from South Asia or Africa who have I hope IRL. They look after him brilliantly. 1/
I think “murder” is the only word for this.
I seem to recall Sunak saying absolutely everything was getting better! Had that been true, of course, there’s no way he’d have called an early election. He knew the country was going down the pan, he knew it was the Tories’ fault, so off he went before the s*** really hit the fan.
The land of the free and the home of the brave has become the land of the oppressed and the home of the cowards.

This is Mick Barton, the cost-cutting Deform leader of Nottinghamshire Council.

He's planning to spend £75k on flags on lampposts across the county because it will “provide a feel good factor”.

Not SEND services, not youth clubs, not even pot holes.

Deform are not safe with your money.

Official numbers of prison releases in error. See the pattern? See on whose watch the system began to fall apart?

At last! A BBC news report that managed to point out the prisons are in such a state that there have been over 200 accidental releases this year. The reason for this? The Tories came close to crashing the criminal justice system altogether.

I do think this sort of open, gutter racism becoming normal enough that they feel comfortable saying it on TV is probably the most damning indictment of the last 5 years.

The richest man on earth owns X.

The second richest man on earth is about to acquire TikTok and his family could soon own both Paramount and Warner Bros.

The third richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The fourth richest man owns The Washington Post.

See the problem here?
Very much looking forward to the front page headlines in the right wing press about the word “enemy” being removed from evidence in the China alleged spying case UNDER THE TORIES.
Anybody know why Ms Lam wears a cross on a chain? I thought it was a symbol of Christianity, but that seems not to fit awfully well with her views about people who don’t fit into her ideal of a “culturally coherent” country.
Looks from here to be corruption on a massive, almost unimaginable, scale, overseen by a man who is part Mafia boss and part Russian asset.

"The reason why the reactionary right hate the ECHR is because it gives ordinary citizens the right against the secretive and authoritarian state that they want."

Sounds like a journal that should feature on Have I Got News For You, esteemed though it no doubt rightly is.
The govt’s approach to the grooming gangs inquiry is so half-hearted, confused and unfocussed that this morning, for the first time in my life, I found myself agreeing with the appalling Robert Jenrick. Can there be a more damning indictment of a govt than it being wrong and Jenrick being right?

If a Labour government with 400 seats which has nailed its colours to the masts of planning reform and the green transition can't steam roller people like this and their ridiculous selfish BS objections, then what on earth is the point of it?
A solar farm that could have powered “all the households in Witney” has been refused permission by West Oxfordshire District Council. Councillors were concerned about the risk of fire, one drawing parallels to the 1966 Aberfan disaster: “Until someone can guarantee it is safe, I can’t support it.”
Coupled with the President pardoning right wing terrorists, who basically have a free pass.

Man, I miss living in times where bombing a fishing boat in distress would have triggered an investigation and consequences instead of a smirking “what are you gonna do to stop us?”
