Physically vibrating at the possibility of catching wild native brook trout in a few months lol
strayhounds.bsky.social
I was not made for cold weather but at least it's easier to dress cute
strayhounds.bsky.social
Trails here in Appalachia don't have switchbacks and go straight up and down which does lead to a lot of ppl trying to find shortcuts and getting lost but I fear mountain hiking in any capacity is fairly dangerous if you aren't prepared
strayhounds.bsky.social
The dumbest discourse in the world is ppl arguing about whether or not eastern or western mountain trails are more dangerous like it makes their trails cooler 😭

If you're in the US you should have a magazine like this in your state available at any sporting goods or tackle store it's handy and you may even have an app with your license on it along with the regulations
Alabama hunting and fishing digest magazine. There is an image of a small mouth bass in a lake or river on the cover. The cover mentions requirements for hunting wildlife management areas and bank fishing opportunities
strayhounds.bsky.social
I love the little trend of ppl just deciding to start fishing one day but please remember to buy a license and also review the rules and regulations I have seen tiktoks that absolutely will result in at least a fine

The younger horse they have was trying his best to be curious about us and we were rly concerned he'd try to jump the fence bc he kept putting his head over it and nodding at us lol
strayhounds.bsky.social
We also watched our neighbors horses eat chestnuts earlier they were awesome, dw we didn't go up to the fence we don't like to touch animals that aren't ours
Two horses partially hidden behind the limbs of a large chestnut tree and barbed wired fencing

I have learned that I need a wire brush if I'm gonna collect these things again
Four black walnuts on a cutting board. They have black lines through them where some of the husk still remains
strayhounds.bsky.social
.... And I'm also waiting for a certain color of braid made for ultra light creek fishing to be back in stock even though it might not happen
strayhounds.bsky.social
I need to order braid for my ultralight reel but I think I'm gonna put it off until spring since I wanna spend the next few months learning fly fishing first and foremost
strayhounds.bsky.social
If you ever see me say I bought something from TikTok shop it's too late you HAVE to old yeller me

Green Herons are such beautiful birds! And I love this photograph I took in Florida couple of days ago.

Could have been a delicious snack if the dragonfly was caught. 🤭

I don't understand why I struggle to do the things I really really want to on the weekends and just end up taking a 4hr nap and being miserable
strayhounds.bsky.social
Ooo I can certainly find out, if there's a FB group I can probably just ask
strayhounds.bsky.social
BUT I did find the kit I want from a locally owned store in NC that I can order from them for $80 less than what I was originally gonna pay soooo maybe next week or closer to the end of the month idk yet
strayhounds.bsky.social
And then Friday I have a super short work day so I think I'll go by Cabela's to pick up the like 5 things I can buy there for fly fishing and then maybe go by orvis and look at their fly selection we.... Don't have any other fly shops lol

I've come to find ppl around here just don't rly go out early mornings or in the fall jokes on them that's the best time for it
strayhounds.bsky.social
The new plan is do the hike I wanted to do today on Saturday so I can do it in the morning and not have to deal w other hikers lol
strayhounds.bsky.social
I've made a mistake and ate too much lunch and now I don't wanna go anywhere 😔 see this is why I planned excursions for early morning
strayhounds.bsky.social
Keep in mind I'm from one of the top 3 counties for violent crime and poverty in NC bc central and eastern NC is ridiculously expensive to survive in
strayhounds.bsky.social
If I did move back up to NC it'd probably be western NC if we're being totally honest, I love the swamps and wet pine savannas and the marshlands but there is significantly more public land access in western NC and a better quality of life without being outrageously expensive
strayhounds.bsky.social
I miss the NC wetlands 😔 I even kind of miss the fact an entire road in my town would flood every time it rained

NC mention 💪 I lived and went to college in the Venus flytrap range, we could observe them by just walking down the road and climbing under a bridge that covered a branch of the lumber river
mossworm.bsky.social
still amazing to me the number of movies, games, etc. which have Venus Flytrap-based creatures in some form compared to the actual native range of Venus Flytrap, which is like, the great untamed jungles of a few wet pine savannas in North Carolina
