I get into trouble a lot with ADs and Leads because they always want splash/flash illos in the middle of ACTION!. And, I get it. I guess. I've just always found there is way more viewer-subject connection (for me at least) in the moments before and after the punch kick explosions.

Craftsmanship. Usually regarding carpentry. But you are right, even 'well made old houses' are not anywhere near the efficiency available through modern materials. A lot of modern houses (1960+) also got a bad rep due to poor quality from contractors building entire neighborhoods on the cheap.
