Kindle books now come with AI assist whether you want it or not. Authors cannot opt out. Sounds innocuous enough, but it's not— authors DON'T want readers stopping and querying AI bots as they read ... I DON'T. #writingcommunity #writing #writingsky #amwriting #kindle #indieauthors

While Amazon is investing billions of dollars to expand AI, independent bookstores are hosting community events, personally recommending books to readers, and providing a space that is safe and welcoming during a time when we need them most.

Never underestimate the power of a local bookstore.

The term "writer's block" was first coined in 1947 by a psychoanalyst, Edmund Bergler. He called it one form of “unconscious masochism.” That the term came from the world of psychoanalysis should be our first red flag as to its conceptual wrongness.

"Are There Story Rules"? Nobody likes being told what to do, esp creatives. But rules are natural, even to creativity. This short article explains why and why you should embrace not rebel against the idea.

If you're using AI to shortcut your story dev process be careful. AI bots/chats etc SUCK at real story dev. They're fine for high-level brainstorming but not real story math. This is a purely human activity at this point. LLMs are inept with this particular thing. Pls don't drink that Kool Aid.

THE BIZ: I'm seeing tons of "cinematic AI" snippets of "movies" online now and they are all terrible. Clunky, bad dialogue, worse lighting, just all bad. AI is inept with any soup-to-nuts filmmaking—gr8 for repetitive production/post stuff but storytelling—forget it. #scriptsky #writingcommunity

THE BOOK BIZ: Screenwriters have an easier time with this... it's part of their world. Book writers not so much—High Concept—everybody wants it but no one really tells you what it is or how to get it. Not the usual approach, but here's my take:
