The background image is a close-up on a black record player and a record with a white center. A white box in the center reads “Ask Me Anything” in black font with an orange box beneath this text. White text in the orange box reads, “r/horrorlit, 10.15.25, 3 PM ET.” The Reddit logo is just above and to the right of this. A circular photo of Nick Mamatas sits centered at the top in the surrounding white box; it is circled in orange, with Nick’s name appearing arched above this in white and black text. A smaller white rectangle further down the image reads “links.ruadanbooks.com/120MAMA” in orange text. The Ruadán Books logo appears in the upper left of the graphic.

It's definitely a great debate to have. I hate doing it in 280 characters.

But, I think I agree with you overall about the character, but I think we separate with our feelings on how she treated Forrest. But that's cool, man. That's what a good movie does.

For clarity, I don't mean it's true to life for women. I mean trauma will fuck you up in a variety of ways, and how she was shaped by *her* trauma is very true to life. I know people like this, and it's tough.

I just don't think it excuses her behavior to Forrest. That's my issue with her.
stevepattee.bsky.social
EXCELLENT point about her performance, because I've discussed her character a lot over the years.

I completely agree her character is tragic. 100%. I just can't get around her treatment (intentional or not) of Forrest.

However, that is true to life.

Please ask your BFF why he was mad at the people talking when he was trying to film something, and what language they were speaking.
stevepattee.bsky.social
I think it's ESPECIALLY because of his mental capacity. She took advantage of that.
stevepattee.bsky.social
NGL, I'm not a fan of her. I don't like how she treated Forrest. I know part of it is her completely fucked up childhood, but that doesn't excuse how she used him when it was convenient for her.

But I don't think she should have reciprocated his affection, she owes him nothing.

It's complicated.

@nkolakowski.bsky.social, well fucking done on your latest newsletter. I was halfway through before I realized what was happening, and I started all over.

Please be conscious if you protest this weekend that there are feds at the protest. They look like you and they sound like you, not like Steve Buscemi in that one clip with the skateboard. Thinking you can spot them is self delusion. Nobody you haven’t met needs to know your last name.

He made so many genuinely iconic images, and you know them all... Here's a lesser known piece of art by Drew Struzan 🖤
Art by Drew Struzan of Jack Nicholson laughing with 3 women (Susan Sarandon, Cher, and Michelle Pfeiffer) sitting on top of his head. Their legs make devil's horns on his head because it's an image for The Witches Of Eastwick.

RIP Drew Struzan. Not just a movie poster artist but a man capable of putting lightning in a bottle, and of taking the form of cinema and encapsulating its spirit in still imagery. The best that will ever do it.

Here are 4 of my favorites:

Today is a great day to read @sgj.bsky.social's fabulously violent, puzzle-box time travel comic series Earthdivers, which, among other things, includes a mission to save the planet by going back in time to kill Christopher Columbus.
