I was freshly diagnosed with brain damage from long covid when I discovered our pirates and this fandom. Fan art lead me to fan fiction and I credit both of them with helping me with my memory loss issues. If yall didn’t create, I definitely wouldn’t have made as much progress as I have. Thank you ❤️

I remember like a decade ago when I almost gave up on art because I just wasn't sure it was even good. Fan art saved me. The enthusiasm of other fans saved me. Looking back, it wasn't /great/ art, but the hundreds of pieces I've drawn since then have all been part of what got me to where I am today.

Sometimes I remember worrying that I was embarrassing when I started sharing my fanart. I fell so hard & so fast for our pirates. Then a pro comic artist I really look up to just out of the blue told me my OFMD stuff was "beautiful work". It was like he knew I needed to hear it right at that moment.
