Ugh, you remind me of a feeling I didn't realize I've missed. Writing and playtesting my own game for a couple years now is honestly great fun, but it has left me with little time to consider running campaigns in other systems. Maybe someday...

Absolutely agreed, and also: you should take care of your books, but don't coddle them.

Scuffs, worn pages, a creased spine, even an unfortunate bump or tear — these are just evidence of the time you spent with a book. You change over time, why shouldn't they?

I think it does, yeah. There are some standout systems (eg Dread) that make you feel scared FOR your character even if you're not scared AS your character.

For me, PbtA is the go-to ruleset for genre emulation because of how its moves are structured.

Sushi tastes better with breaks of pickled ginger inbetween. Horror is punchier right after you laugh some tension away. Palate cleansers are important!
