Oh, absolutely! Like one of my all time favourite theatre experiences was watching The Others way back in the day during that opening week. The entire movie is dark, slow burning, with a pretty creepy premise.

But the ONE big jump happened and an entire theatre screamed. It was amazing.

this is one of the most chilling scenes in jurassic park, wherein, rather than showing us the brutality on screen, the movie uses sound effects to imply the gruesome violence as the cow beats the shit out of a bunch of velociraptors
