I think this might've made for some very frustrating fighting games, because if hurdle 1 for beginners is "how do I do [x]", then hurdle 2 or 3 is "what do I do about [y]"

and if the answer is "you literally just have to guess on something and if you're wrong you explode", things get rough

I feel like Street Fighter 5 and games in its wake were made with this idea that "fighting games are hard for beginners because there are too many things players can do, so if we let the player do less it'll be easier"

which is a pretty reasonable assumption. but I think it might be wrong as fuck?

Actually one more: if your intent to network with or befriend someone is to climb a social ladder or use them?

Buddy, every person can sense that. I've had it happen to me and shut it down immediately.

But yeah, please don't focus on followers/popularity.

They started skyrocketing in followers, and the moment they surpassed me I was unfriended/unfollowed from everything, as were their friends they introduced me to.

I confronted them about it thinking I did something wrong and the only thing the weasel said was "Don't worry, I still love you"

They took the latter and just started doing fanart of every big artist they could find. If the WIPs didn't get them numbers they moved onto the next artist. This unfortunately worked out for them.

It made me feel dirty as my intention was not to quite literally use people, but they did.

I've been used in this way. I used to know someone who I used to talk to everyday, they started becoming obsessed with growing their followers.

One day they asked me for advice to grow and I gave them advice.
One of the things I said was do fanart of a show or maybe an OC they liked.

Random talk here:

I've been asked before by newer/younger artists about how to get popular or meet other artists.

My answer is "please do not make popularity your focus when creating art." It's going to leave you frustrated and feeling empty when you create artwork. It'll suck the fun out of it.

It's that giving time of year again, so this is a reminder that no matter how they try to dress it up, the Salvation Army is not a charity.

To the peasant man I transported from Victorian England to today: Now that you understand what the Internet is, this is the Internet Archive, not to be confused with Archive of our Own aka AO3, which is different from AOC, a politician

You can see right now the Epstein-adjacent sex pest technofascists desperately and relentlessly trying to pull the same shit with generative AI, painting opposition as having complex and weird problems with it.

Capitalists managed to turn a very simple and *completely normal* problem with automation, into the popular conception of luddites, to the point where they convinced people it's weird to not want to come home missing limbs for a fraction of the wages you deserve.

"I produce 10x more than I did last year but still make the same money. And the machine I now use eats human fingers. Who the fuck is benefiting here?"

Not a difficult issue, not a weird position for a person to have.

"I'm being paid the same now, when I make 500 shirts a day, as I did when I made 50 shirts a day. Where the fuck is the money going?"

The popular idea of luddites is entirely due to generations of capitalists trying their damnedest to obscure what is a very simple issue.

An easy way to explain luddites:

Textile manufacturers brought in machines that could do in an hour what would have taken 12 hours by hand.

And then, tried to keep paying the now 12x more productive workers the same wages as before.

That's it, that was the problem luddites had. Not complex.
