A guy (he/him), obsessed with the DS/3DS and handheld game systems of nearly every kind. Too Many Handhelds on YouTube.

I remember being so excited for it and then sooo let down. Just the experience of money system alone was awful, but penalizing the player for running? Seriously? Ugh.
I keep thinking about going back to Rebirth, so I start it up and am met with the "play cards to advance the plot" and then I laugh and say "oh yeah", turn it off, and play something fun instead.

Side stuff should be optional, because that's what makes it side stuff.

Remember folks. The original bluesky ethos by us bluesky elders (apparently I count?) is block and move on.

Don't quote dunk, don't pick fights.
Block, and move on.

This is what made this site unpalatable to the right early on, and we can continue to make it unpalatable to them.
Just the fact that they think people are protesting for their social media feed says about all you need to know regarding how useless of an opposition party the Dems are. They're all supporting the same regime, either actively as Republicans or by not standing in the way at all as Democrats.
I've started using Music Bee this week as my Spotify alternative, and it's really nice! You just point it to your mp3 collection and it has a nice organized UI to navigate and play it all. It can also do tagging, rip discs, and play podcasts. And it's totally free!

Here is a Reddit threat that explains how to disable Copilot in Windows, which I've just followed:

That was one of the more surreal aspects of it. Like there are people from various points in our lives, past and present, all in the same room mingling together like some kind of weird dream, then at the end of it all I have an espresso maker.
I thought maybe this would compel Microsoft to make a minimal version of Windows for handhelds like this to compete with the Steam Deck. All they had to do was remove apps like Teams which make no sense, and maybe include Steam, GOG Galaxy, and the XBox PC app, and it could have been a home run.
To this day the intro and first few hours are some of the most atmospheric of any game. They really did a good job of making it feel almost dream-like and surreal in a way that few games ever come close to.
I've heard similar sentiments from Etsy sellers, especially those that ship overseas. Multiple systems are operating poorly at the same time.
I fat fingered the alt text for the Super Pocket. It's the 2600 of course. I don't think Atari ever made a 2700 🙂
When I was on Twitter I did this thing for a while where I shared a handheld a day for a while. I might do it here too (with a mutable hashtag if you're not into this kind of thing) but I was thinking of keeping it to just DS/3DS systems.
I like Linux as a SteamOS, but as a general Windows replacement it's not great. A lot of Windows software isn't available, so you need to learn new replacement software. That, combined with the OS itself, can be quite a learning curve. The Linux community can be very condescending to newcomers too.
To anybody that wants to jump into Linux, or any other OS really, all I can say is this:

Don't jump right into it. You should back up everything important (if you haven't done that regularly already) and, ideally, you should probably test whatever OS you want to try on a spare drive, if you can.
This is the future of Windows. Microsoft wants to rewrite Windows to turn computers into AI PCs that you talk to. It's now bringing AI features to all Windows 11 PCs today, in a bid to convince you to talk to your PC and let AI control it. Full details 👇 www.theverge.com/news/799768/...
I wish we got cool ads like this.
And then it printed money and almost immediately Capcom was like "uhhhh... Dino Crisis! Breath of Fire IV! What else can we give them?"
I think it's especially funny since you can just install the XBox app on any handheld PC, and branding or not, it plays XBox games as long as the specs are good enough. There is nothing special about an Xbox handheld.
I owe my career to Mavis Beacon ...if she was real.

Almost like we founded the entire country on opposing this exact sentence.

I prefer Bazzite on handhelds, but if you just want Steam and nothing else, it's a great OS. You can still use a Desktop environment like on a Steam Deck and install GOG games with the Heroic client too.

I like Regata for gaming laptops because you can play Steam or GOG games, but it also has a basic browser, GOG Galaxy, and emulators that you can install.

I don't usually push Linux, but if you have a Windows 10 PC that you're going to get rid of, please consider using one of these OSes to make it a gaming machine. It doesn't even have to be particularly powerful, you can still run indie games like Stardew Valley, or classics from GOG.

It was really nice. I was lucky to get an old PC from my uncle that had all of Wolf 3D installed. I loved it, but preferred the shareware version of ROTT. I didn't get the full version until college where that was my first eBay purchase ever. These kids don't know how good they have it with GOG 😂
Someone gave it to me in high school because he had epilepsy and as much as he liked Wolf 3D/Spear, the flash with each gunshot was physically painful. I felt bad for him, but at the same time I wasn't going to turn down free Wolfenstein.
I don't own a lot of big box PC games, but I treasure my copy of Spear of Destiny. It's such a great sequel, and as you said, it is hard!
