Playing Red Steel on an Xbox controller actually kinda makes it more interesting, just because of how unusual the controls become as a result. The unlocked aiming reminds me a little of the GoldenEye/Perfect Dark/Medal of Honor style of early console shooters

Update: did some more digging and turns out Dolphin *does* have conditional inputs! Current approach is using R1 to swap the right stick from pointer to swings and L3+direction for nunchuck shakes

It's definitely still janky but it's working

Experimented a bit with trying to map Wii games to an Xbox controller in Dolphin. Seems like it's either a little awkward but works better than you might think, or ends up completely unplayable. All depends on how much of the Wii any given game is trying to use

You can just about get away with mapping one *kind* of motion input to the right stick. But if a game uses, say, both pointing and slashing, you're kinda fucked without an easy way to switch between them

Might try on the Deck, see if I can get it to map the sticks and touch pads

Viewtiful Joe is like the quintessential Rented-from-Blockbuster game of my youth

It would be really nice if Capcom remembers this series exists, but failing that I hope we can at least get it on the NSO Gamecube library at some point

'Viewtiful Joe' was released 22 years ago today on October 7th, 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube!

It's a side-scrolling action game where you use 'VFX' to give Joe powers like slow-mo or mach speed, and it's just bursting with style.

Doom 3 isn't the traditional Doom experience but it's a delightfully spooky successor to Half-Life and I'll always love it for that. A real gem of that middle era of early 2000s post-Half-Life/pre-COD narrative FPS design

I've always had a soft spot for DOOM 3.

Sure, with a heavier focus on horror over the "run and gun" gameplay the series is known for, DOOM 3 was kinda divisive. Still, it really nailed a creepy atmosphere, scares, and a much darker tone.

It's an effective horror game and deserves more attention.
