The Iraq War and Bush's economic crash got held against the GOP for exactly one election, was forgotten by the next election, and the election after that they got to run as the outsider candidate taking down The Establishment responsible for all those bad things.
Do we remember that in the aftermath of the Bush years there was a genre of commentary that boiled down to "Welp, the American Conservative Movement really overreached this time damaging the country in irreparable ways. It's clear that the GOP will be in the wilderness for the next 20 years."

I just got back home from Governor-elect Spanberger's party in Richmond. A few things:
1) Emerge Virginia had a banner night. EVA alumnae flipped the Governor's seat and 8 House of Delegates seats Red to Blue, retained all 17 of HoD incumbents and swept all six local races where they ran. 🧵
