The number of people on this site that continue to post all about their crimes and encourage others to join in, is an odd bit.

Do not point lasers at aircraft.

someone on the Internet who really wants to convince you to shine lasers at manned aircraft as a protest tactic “because they did it in Chile in 2019” is either:

1. a fascist fed, or,

2. so terminally stupid that they have become functionally indistinguishable from one

I am socially awkward af, but this is beyond even my level of awkward. Fucking hell.

The moderation on this site is pathetic.

We have words for everything, but even I am unsure we have a word for just how unquestionably wtf this is.

I think it is good that I do not come on here much at this point. The sock puppets, fake posts and AI slop (to include videos) is increasing by the day. Unfortunate, as there are many educators and historians I enjoy here. I think this site will not turn out as I had hoped.

This is a fake tweet that's been around for years. She never posted this. Take it down.

An amazing miniature portrait of the #Roman empress Agrippina Minor (15-59 AD), made from chalcedony. Agrippina was the mother of Nero, and married to her uncle, emperor Claudius. It was rumoured that she poisoned her husband with a dish of mushrooms.

I hate it when people do the "tell me one good thing, what's something great going on in your life?" bit. I can never think of anything on the spot and they're just standing there looking at you like "this poor son of a bitch"

First came to the US at 16, six months school exchange. Served alongside US troops in Afg and visited the US twice after. I moved here August of 2024 for work. Last week, I have requested to transfer out. Trump is chaos and I wish my time had been different. The damage is generational.

Again. Every single time there is a project based around BI, the results are a net positive for all involved. Forward.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

A 3,500 year-old Egyptian glass cosmetic jar with two little duck heads!

Glass was a relatively new material at that time, so this jar would have been a precious possession.

From Merit’s beauty case, found inside Theban tomb (TT8) of Merit and her husband Kha in 1906. 📷 Museo Egizio

#Archaeology
Museo Egizio Turin photo showing a small, dark-blue, core-formed, round glass jar which tapers in at the shoulders below the neck. It has yellow, white, and light blue festoon decoration trailed around the main body. There is a single yellow trail just below the neck of the jar. There is a dark-blue circular glass lid, the top of which is adorned with two dark-blue duck heads with yellow bills, a yellow trailed stripe on the top of each duck’s head, and indents for their eyes. The jar is displayed on a perspex (?) stand against a grey background. Glass jar dimensions: 7.6 cm x 9.6 cm.

Core-forming is one of the earliest glassmaking techniques. Glassmakers shaped the body of the vessel around a core, wound colored trails around it. They then let the vessel cool and removed the core.

If bsky crashes out, I believe I am done with social media as a whole. I am rarely on here much these days anyway.

Listen. If you didn't want to be seen as the Twitter escape pod, you shouldn't have deliberately fostered a community of people so united by their contempt for arbitrary authority and love of absolute free speech that they were willing to abandon a platform they'd been using for 15 years

It's increasingly clear that the president lives in a constructed bubble of unreality designed by aides who are manipulating him in order to take control of US policy. Seems like an important story - wish media would cover it.

One of the situations that has surprised me the most in America is how the mainstream media is a total failure in correct portrait of what is occurring and even more and often times most complicit in spreading Trump / far-right messaging

They didn’t infiltrate. They were invited in by the Admin. And the mainstream WH press corps didn’t stand up for their own (Yamiche Alcindor, AP).
