I think I tried to say it in my speech, what does it mean to organise when I have to take a 30 minute bus into the city centre to discuss it?

Building that street/community presence here has always been very difficult though and again, it's easy to say it, but how do we do this concretely?
silbheuig.bsky.social
This included a lot of talk on the need for more social and community centres.

However, what are the logistics of that? It's easy to say, but how do we do it? (esp. outside of large urban areas like Manchester) Who has the access and capacity to set these up and direct what they do?
silbheuig.bsky.social
I was intrigued at how base-building was frequently mentioned (understandably so), but I think it is important to look back at the brief post-2019 election, pre-COVID period when it was being explored & looking into the difficulties of doing so (like what happened with the Marxist Center in the USA)

I think my summary of TWT is that it is so refreshing and exciting being surrounded by so many socialists.

I also noticed how insistent people were on not only anti-oppression (inc. trans liberation), but also anti-imperialism in a way I have not seen in mass left spaces.

🔥🔥🔥 Thank you all for coming to our panel yesterday. Thanks to The World Transformed Festival for the opportunity. We'll hopefully see you all next year!

In the meantime, we're looking for submissions on anti-oppression and anti-imperialist struggles, as well as reflections on this year's TWT.

No bomb should’ve ever dropped on a single civilian, a single child.

If this is the end of them I’m glad.

But the loss is so so immense and the future so uncertain.

What does “peace” mean when it sits atop a genocide? What peace when the genocider dictates its terms?

If you haven't ever had to apply for IRB approval to conduct human subject research I don't think you can appreciate how profound of a violation of ethical research practices this is. This is information collected from a vulnerable community in a medical context disclosed without consent.

Oslo University Hospital caught using trans patients' journals for research purposes:
- Without the patients' consent to participate in research
- Affecting minors
- 1700 of them
- Taking highly sensitive information from said journals

This is a HUGE breach.

We are the Trans Liberation Group and we are fighting for a foundation of trans liberation in Your Party, in its current and future iterations.
Founding Statement:
The situation for trans people in Britain is critical. We face a barrage of billionaire bankrolled abuse in the media. We endure decades long waiting lists to access limited healthcare, with dehumanisation and pathologisation built in to the system.

In the job market, we are met with discrimination, lack of opportunity and stagnating pay. We are excluded from housing, healthcare, employment, leisure - now even our use of bathrooms is policed.
 - Trans Liberation Group Something must change.
- Trans Liberation Group Founding Statement:
For trans people, today’s politics is exhausting. The major political parties have used and discarded us time and time again. Too often, exclusionary figures are embedded in leadership capacities, and even in progressive parties, those on the fringes can spew hatred unchallenged.

We say no more. This cannot happen in Your Party. The liberation of all marginalised people can only be achieved through their active and equal participation in class struggle; there can only be a precarious freedom for some under current conditions.
- Trans Liberation Group ounding Statement:
We are the Trans Liberation Group and we are fighting to ensure Your Party, in its current and future iterations, explicitly advocates for trans liberation, and encourages the political participation of trans people.

We know there are prominent figures who have been platformed under the banner of Your Party who hold regressive, misinformed and dangerous views on trans people. We are here to show them that this is our party, and we will fight tooth and nail to prevent this oppressive
politics from taking root.

The Foundations of Zionism by Sabri Jiryis

Translated into English for the first time, Jiryis details the origins of Zionism and its development as an ideology and political project that has wrought havoc in the Middle East and beyond.

On the left of the image is the book cover for Foundations of Zionism.

On the right is a quote:
“A foundational and vital work. Jiryis’ book is indispensable reading for anyone seeking to understand Zionism's monstrous rise from myth to mandate, and a sobering reminder that there is no redeeming it.”
Mohammed El-Kurd, Palestinian writer and poet

On the bottom right it says, Available October 7th. On the left of the image is the book cover for Foundations of Zionism.

On the right is the following passage:

'The Foundations of Zionism chronicles Zionism’s development from its early origins to the establishment of the British mandate over Palestine in 1923, refuting the movement’s own foundational myths. Sabri Jiryis delves into Zionism’s successive congresses and factional struggles, its early failures to settle in Palestine and the formation of armed militias, and its temporary alliances with the Ottoman Empire before securing support from Western colonial powers.

In a newly written conclusion, Jiryis reconsiders the Zionist project 100 years on from the Balfour Declaration and amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza.'

As someone who knows people who work in pink news:

Do not trust pink news. Their entire business model is built around panic and fear for trans people and explicitly trans women.

Hey y'all, just a gentle reminder that PinkNews sensationalizes their news through bad reporting and worse headlines. Please get your news elsewhere; they try to keep you scared to keep you engaged with their content model.

I want to make it clear that UNISON is made of 1.4 million members, who have passed motions which directly oppose Phillipson's politics

The decision on who to support was made by the Labour link Exec - a very small group of people.

This does not represent the views of UNISON's members at large

What I got instead was...yeah.

Honestly a bit of a wake up call in that I'm not as used to mass movement parties and spaces. Definitely had some moments today where I'm like 'oh, I get how people become cynical now.'
